I bet Davey Boy would waive his no trade clause if he was offered-up to a contender.
  2. I don't know what it is about WP that doesn't excite me. They are from the south, like to jam and write pretty inspired music. For some reason those qualities haven't connected with me emotionally.
  3. I'll probably be gone not too long after midnight since the show will be over and I'll have a group of friends with me. The Eye reviewer only refers to one song as sounding like Dr. Dog (whom I've never heard of) and BSS. I know Owen well and Purple Hill's first album is really cosmic country with a dash of old-school Carter Family. Owen as a solo artist likes to play intricate instrumentals fused into some dark and honest country-folk. However, judging by his side project Rough Skeletons and the three song sampler on the myspace page, Owen and Purple Hill are experimenting above and beyond alt-country, adding more 60's psychedlia and White Light/White Heat VU.
  4. There are two separate areas. I believe the backroom is located straight ahead when you walk in. The other room is off to the right when you walk in. I've only been there once, so if I'm wrong someone correct me. Hey Kev, I hope I run into you. I'll be there fairly early for the Purple Hill "party" and look for a guy with dirty blonde hair and a short full beard.
  5. I don't write reviews of bands I only like. Mike (bouche) sends me all kinds of CD's for review purposes, and I didn't like some of them as recent as The Malah. Also check out my mostly negative review of Ottawa bluesman JW Jones. And for fuck's sake, I gave my very own cousin David Waddell's CD "Microphone Envy" a middling review, and I'm his biggest fan. I really disliked Bill Frisell's latest album, but I've never been exposed to his music much in my lifetime, so I really couldn't get a handle on what he tries to accomplish musically. Howerver, I found his album mind-numbingly boring. I review many of the albums I buy and when I deem one to be worthy of a review, I'll write it, hence my recent reviews of Rough Skeletons and The White Stripes. I now want that Widespread Panic album more than ever.
  6. I'll review the album Mike. Admittedly, I'm not really a big fan of the band, but I'm eager to hear the new album.
  7. And the CBC lost the CFL, so they'll be mining memorable curling archives for classic Scott Tournament of Hearts and historic "Best of Ed Werinich".
  8. You mixed-up the CBC with TSN there Hal. The CBC all-sports will be showing more exciting taped equestrian, biathalon and triathalon evens. TSN is the king of poker, strongman competions and lumberjacks.
  9. Have you learned how to play "New Funk Order" yet?
  10. As looper/sampling artists go, acoustic guitar-based Howie Day is really imaginative as well as being a good singer/songwriter.
  11. Well, I've got front row balcony seats for the Massey Hall show, so right now I'm FUCKING EXCITED AS HELLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
  12. Do I have to drive up to Ottawa to kick you in the nuts personally or can someone there please do it for me asap!! I'm serious here folks! The Booche in print isn't the same Booche on the phone or in person. It's tough to separate the two sometimes, lord knows it's tough, but I doubt he meant what he said; not that he'd admit it here. I'm sure he'll rip me now.
  13. I don't know Keller's music at all, but looping and use of multi-samples is gimmicky, but it doesn't matter as long as you can write and deliver good songs. Keller isn't the only artist that uses loops and samples as a solo device and in innovative ways, but he's the only one that I can think of that is doing it in this "scene".
  14. Try not to take cracks directed at bands you like too personally. I know I get furious sometimes when someone cracks at me, but it's only a website and essentially it's just words. Get out of your house and talk to someone qualified to help you deal with "feel(ing) like crap all the time". I find this troubling. Best of luck to you Dave.
  15. And in other news, Jack Johnson has added electric guitars to give his sound a "harder-edged" dimension on his upcoming new album.
  16. That's beyond tacky! That's horribly fucking shameful! Shameful, but hardly a precedent. StarTV was scrambling to air as many Heath Ledger themed programs and features even before his body got cold. I'm sure they were in-step with their filthy American entertainment counterparts like E! and MTV.
  17. I gotta cut down on the beer. My late father wasn't a big beer drinker and he still died from colorectal cancer.
  18. 2 or 3 24's a week! You are doing the right thing Bob. Best of luck and get into the gym, take up karate/judo or start running. It'll help you in so many ways. BTW, beer is a major carcinogen that leads to colorectal cancer.
  19. Good luck Bob and Mellie. I don't think I can quit drinking, but I'm certainly trying to cut down. Working out helps alot not only in body but in mind as well.
  20. Defensive criticism aside, the Raps looked great in the Celtics zone all night. Jose was fantastic.
  21. I love the live video for "Level" by The Raconteurs. It's a little bit Zeppelin with some Allman-styled dueling lead guitars thrown in for good measure. A fucking great rock song:
  22. The Raps biggest win of the sesaon and best game overall, even if they got killed on the boards and points in the paint.
  23. I'm actually very frightened after watching that.
