  5. Their Letterman performance was fuggin fantastic from two years ago. They can bring it hard live.
  6. Someone correct my spelling. It should be Carroll O'Connor
  7. Theme: Songs intended to make you laugh. 1. Monty Python - Every Sperm is Sacred 2. Demetri Martin - Sames and Opposites 3 John Prine & Iris DeMent - In Spite of Ourselves 4 Carroll O Connor & Jean Stapleton - Those Were The Days (All In The Family) 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12
  8. This is a good idea. I hope it works. Lung cancer is as nasty as cancer gets, but is not necessarily the death-nail it once was. This will help in the fight.
  9. Theme: Songs about places that start with the letter "c" 1. Allison Kraus and Union Station - Choctaw Hayride 2. Tom Petty - California (thanx Miranda) 3. Parliament - Chocolate City 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
  10. They are about the same without Tucker so I'd trade him. I'd still unload Antropov for a bucket of pucks.
  11. If you go to Niagra Falls, be sure to go to the lovely town of Niagra-on-the-Lake. Most of the wineries don't have tours at this time of the year, but some still do. Niagra is #1 for ice-wine plus one of the best wine producing regions in the world. The fake Niagra Falls town is Clifton Hill. Avoid the real downtown. It's depressing. Tours are good if you don't have a lot of time to explore.
  12. Taking one of those double-decker bus tours is a good way to see a lot of the great areas of Toronto, then you can explore on your own during or after the tour.
  13. Stan Jonathan may be the toughest pound-for-pound 'enforcer' of all time. This is still the best fight I've ever seen (and I watched it live on TV at the time). Yes Andre, I know the Bruins still lost the series:
  14. For Toronto, I'd take them for an eating, shopping and drinking tour around some of Toronto's best ethnic areas like Greektown (Danforth Ave.), Little Italy, Chinatown and Little India. Plus, the Distillery District and St. Lawrence Market are a 10 minute walk from each other and are really cool and interesting. Queen Street West is an entertaining shop/walk and they may find the ultra-ritzy celebrity haunt Yorkville fascinating if not outrageously expensive (just north of Bloor and Bay, on Cumberland and Yorkville Avenues). I'd avoid the Art Gallery Of Ontario (although it is in Chinatown). The ongoing Frank Gehry renovations won't be done until the fall rendering the AGO a mess visually and in maneuvering around inside.
  15. 1. The Man - JGB - Ripple 2. Allman Brothers Band - Little Martha 3. Garcia Grisman Rice - So What 4. Neil Young - Pardon My Heart 5. Ani DiFranco - Letter to a John 6. Stephen Fearing - The Longest Road 7. Bright Eyes - First Day Of My Life 8. Bruce Cockburn - Rouler Sa Bosse 9. Blackbird-The Beatles 10. John Hartford - Gentle on my Mind 11. Nick Drake - Pink Moon 12.
  16. The Von Bondies first album, produced by Jack White. This sucker is pedal to the metal rock and roll:
  17. Get Funeral and then the new album. Their first album/EP (self-titled) isn't very good.
  18. I like the Annex quite a bit. It's pretty noisy, but a cool area. There are a couple of good areas to live in Scarborough. I like the area of Kingston Road at Victoria Park - it has a poor man's Riverdale feel. The Beaches runs into Scarborough too, so Scarberia ain't all bad.
  19. Do you mean Leslieville? It is an upcoming area. There are some excellent restaurants and pubs along the strip. The houses are slightly more "lived-in" than they are in Riverdale, but I'd move to Leslieville. The house prices are still reasonable and the area is close to both The "Beaches" and The Danforth.
  20. "Isn't there a blue grass night at the one bar right there too? What nights good for blues at the Black Swan? Do they have food too?" Well, Tony "Wild T" Springer has an open mic night on Wednesdays. The Swan books blues bands all the time, so just check the sign out front. The second floor is where they play. Downstairs is a scuzzy dive. The Swan has pub food. I'd rather eat at the 80 restaurants in the neighbourhood including the pub I listed below. The Old Nick on the corner of Broadview and Danforth has bluegrass every Sunday - late afternoon until 8pm or so. The band is excellent, but they tune their instruments too much and for far too long between songs. Still, they are hardcore bluegrassers. Open mic night at the Nick is on Tuesdays and is usually pretty darn good.
  21. Songs that have been popularized (or re-popularized) by movies, after the song's performer has died. 1. Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World (Good Morning Vietnam) 2. Johnny Cash - I Walk The Line (Walk The Line) 3. Nat King Cole - Mona Lisa (Mona Lisa) 4. The Doors - The End (The Doors) 5. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (Wayne's World) 6. Bobby Darin - Beyond The Sea (Beyond The Sea) 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
  22. Has the hard-hitting Volchenkov ever been in a real fight? He didn't look like he wanted to get away to help Emery. No matter. Emery is a tough S.O.B..
  23. True, but if pubs are more your style, then Riverdale will suit your needs. Plus, the infamous blues dump The Black Swan is at Danforth and Broadview.
  24. McGrattan said today that Emery could be considered a Top 10 enforcer. I love that Emery kid. Loves boxing, loves to save the puck and loves to drop the mitt and blocker.
  25. Two parks actually. Withrow Park is right in the middle of Riverdale, just a minute walk from Danforth. You can also walk over the footbridge over to Riverdale Farm in Cabbagetown. I live right around the corner from the Danforth Music Hall and Allen's.
