  1. And Queens Of The Stone Age can kick ass too.
  2. I agree. I meant more that there were big defensive stars before Taylor. Also, his fellow Giants linebackers were also incredible at their position.
  3. No' date=' I think you nailed it. (just like LT nailed that 15 year old. What? Too soon??) First real defensive "star" in the majority's opinion. [/quote'] For me, the first major defensive stars were Mean Joe Green and L.C. Greenwood (I was a giant Steelers fan in the '70s and I still hate the Cowboys). That Giants linebacker crew during the taylor reign were all great, affectionately known as The Crunch Bunch - Harry Carson, Brad van Pelt and Brian Kelly. I also loved back-up and occassional starter Gary Reasons. I wish I was around when Dick Butkus was destroying running-backs.
  4. I believe this is the same day as NXNE's big free show at Yonge and Dundas Square and Iggy and the Stooges.
  5. Seriously? Them Crooked Vultures are a supergroup that delivers and their album gets better and more interesting (and Zeppeliny) as it goes. seriously? you think it delivers? hmmmm. we've been on the fence about this show since it went on sale. complete bullshit that TO is an arena show when everyone else is getting clubs I do think the album rocks, but the second half easily trumps the first. And the show will be killer given the pedigree of the band, whether you love the album or not.
  6. My love of the Giants from the Taylor era has been devastatingly tainted. I hope he's not guilty, but he has the kind of baggage that makes this charge likely.

  8. I'd put money on it. The Toronto Star suggested in yesterday's business section that since the $2 billion purchase by Shaw, CanWest will now have the opportunity to purchase better US and international programs. It seems Conan would be a perfect late night fit.
  9. I'd have a hard time believing a Canadian TV company won't pick this program up. You may even see it on Global now that CanWest was just sold for $2 billion to Shaw Cable.
  10. Agreed and I'm giving you a venti thumbs up.
  11. According to Al Kooper via Ain't It Cool, Max is out as bandleader. His contract wasn't renewed.
  12. There's just as many knockouts in the lower weight divisions and the fights are usually more exciting because the heavyweight division hasn't been good in decades, and this includes the Tyson and Holyfield era. Mayweather doesn't have a knock-out punch; he's a hard-hitting boxer who throws clean fast two-punch combos. If he moved down a full division, he probably would knock more guys out, but he still can stop opponents with average jaws. Mosley has an excellent jaw even though he's been TKO'd. The welterweight division is the best and has some of the hardest hitting knockout punchers in the game including Manny Pacquiao (pound-for-pound #1), Berto, Marquez and a ton more. What's really impressive about Pacquiao is his ability to knock guys out in heavier weight classes. Manny is fighting in 7 classes above his original weight, albeit this includes junior divisions. Power generally stays the same, so for him to have a devastating knock-out punch, not to mention being able to take big hits, is mind-blowing.
  13. One fighter to avoid watching is Steve Molitor. He's a boring counter-puncher who is afraid to get hit.
  14. The Big Carrot in Toronto carries many brands of Fair Trade coffee such as Ethical Bean, Planet Bean and Kicking Horse (which is one of my least favourites of their coffees). You can get all their brands for under $15 except for KH for some reason. I've seen KH for under $13 in Kensington Market at an organic store on Kensigton Ave. Oh, Timothy's sells Fair Trade coffee and it's excellent.
  15. Meh. Boxing After Dark and HBO Boxing is almost always great. MMA has lots of dog fights and corruption is starting to creep in, not unlike boxing. And comparing the two sports is like comparing the Stanley Cup playoffs to March Madness. They ain't the same. The last undercard bout before the big fight last night was awesome. One thing about Mayweather is that he's such a great boxer that he made Mosley look old, the same Mosely who recently destroyed Margarito and Mayorga, two big fights I doubt you watched.
  16. No, that's not it at all. This had everything to do with Shane not wanting to get hit a la Steve Molitor. The matchup should have produced more fireworks. There's been lots of great big money fights recently, but this wasn't one of them, for whatever reason. Mayweather didn't run and that's the main reason why he won (and he almost got knocked out by not running, in Round 2). One thing about this fight was that the only way you could see the landed punches clearly was in slowmotion; the speed was incredible.
  17. Well, the fight wasn't very good. Mosley fought similar to Steve Molitor, meaning, he looked like he was afraid to get hit (I find this unacceptable since Sugar Shane had Floyd in serious trouble in the 2nd).
  18. I'm getting the PPV for tonight and I'm having a party. I hate Mayweather, but he's the best boxer-puncher since Sugar Ray Leonard. I'm picking Shane by KO in an upset.
  19. I like organic and/or fair trade coffee, generally medium roast. If I don't make my own, I usually get coffee from an indie shop (there are several in my neighbourhood). If I have to go chain, I try to go to Timothy's or the Second Cup. Starbuck's is the Walmart of coffee and should be removed from this planet.
  20. I don't have a problem with the history of religion (theology). I think removing religion from faith-based schools would never fly, even though it doesn't belong there - it belongs in places of worship.
  21. Sharon, do you believe in a person's soul or spirit? If you do, then you aren't an atheist.
  22. Yes, and it kicks ass: The Kingston Brewing Company. Its beer is sold almost exlusively at The Kingston Brew Pub. There's also some nice mico-brews in the county and The County (Prince Edward County - Picton, Wellington...).
  23. Are you talking about theological study and discussions about all religions or being hammered over the head by religion as part of a specifc school and/or school board's normal daily routine?
  24. I want one of those hotdogs right fucking now!
