  1. You may, and may I respectfully disagree with your Max love?
  2. What? How can anyone get bored of listening to daily (and hourly) doses of The Eagles, Steve Miller and Supertramp?
  3. Some of the Max Webster stuff is good and Kim's an excellent prog-rock guitarist. Phish aren't prog-rock, although they flirt with it from time to time. However, Kim slagging 54-40 is slightly unfair since he's never written anything as good as Baby Ran, I Go Blind and especially One Gun.
  4. Janssen was put on the 15-day disabled list today due to inflamation in his arm.
  5. Kim's just bitter because he's never lived up to his "wild party" status.
  6. Walmart? Maybe they made a deal with the devil afterall?
  7. I saw the film at last year's Toronto's Hot Docs fest and posted an off-the-cuff review that I assume few read: http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/246479/post/522894/hl/Anvil/fromsearch/1/ I love the movie: great story; it's heartbreaking, frustrating and funny. Anvil recently signed with a big Hollywood agent and are opening in select cities opening for AC/DC. I hope they finally make it.
  8. Other than being a sweeping non-scientific generalization, I agree with your main points. Some cyclists think they are immune to the rules of the road. But really though, if a reckless and agressive bike courier gets greased by a car, is this such a bad thing? Seriously, the cyclists that drive on sidewalks are arrogant and/or ignorant idiots; same with the ones that blow through red lights and stop signs.
  9. Wear a helmet and ride defensively. Some drivers are idiots and/or can't hear or see you coming. I can't imagine not wearing a helmet while on my bike.
  10. I was at that show too. He was 12 back then. He was wearing a Cleveland Indians hat... that's all I could see from my angle since Derek was standing behind Greg's Hammond.
  11. He ranked #81, one spot ahead of David Gilmore. Although in my books, Derek is Top 5 of his generation and near the top of all-time greatest slide guitarists.
  12. I was down at Dundas Square last night and there was no promo for today's show. In yesterday's Star it mentioned that today's slide guitar show was running from 1-5. Let's just say Luminato and the Star ain't doing these great artists any favours.
  13. I believe Derek is on this afternoon, around 3ish? He's headlining the Slide Guitar Summit.
  14. In the old days, money wasn't invested in middle relief like it is today (nor with closers) - plus there was a history of starters regularly going the distance. Even the modern era had impressive innings pitched, compelete game stats. Take a look at Jack Morris, Dave Stieb or even the underrated Steve Rogers. Sure, Halladay gave up 4 runs in the 7th, but did you see Cito talking to Roy in the bottom of the 7th in the dugout? When does that ever happen? I believe Roy was only behind in the count twice the entire game. That to me is dominant. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see him throwing 120+ game after game. But every so often, as long as he looks strong, I see nothing wrong with it. It's not as if Arnsberg and Cito don't know their ace.
  15. I had the honour of meeting "The Queen of the Blues" back in 1993 when Koko was part of Alligator Records 20th Anniversary Tour. I also got to sing into her microphone during the chorus for "Wang Dang Doodle" and she was verrrrry nice and said I did a good job. She was one of a kind and one of the last great blues performers left. R.I.P. Koko Taylor. From the CBC: Koko Taylor, the Grammy Award-winning blues veteran dubbed the Queen of the Blues, has died at the age of 80. Taylor died at a Chicago hospital on Wednesday after suffering complications from intestinal surgery she had two weeks ago, according to a statement from her label, Alligator Records. "The passion that she brought and the fire and the growl in her voice when she sang was the truth," blues singer and musician Ronnie Baker Brooks said in tribute. "The music will live on, but it's much better because of Koko. It's a huge loss." Born into a sharecropping family living outside of Memphis, Taylor was encouraged to sing gospel music by her father but said she always dreamed of being a blues singer, especially after listening to B.B. King's radio show as a teen. "I would hear different records and things by Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Sonny Boy Williams and all these people, you know, which I just loved," she once said in an interview. Her siblings also shared her love of blues. Taking the nickname Koko, which she picked up due to her love of chocolate, she moved to Chicago at the age of 18 with Robert Taylor, whom she would later marry. In her off-hours from work as a cleaning woman, Taylor and her husband began frequenting the city's music clubs, where she eventually made her way onto the stage singing with blues bands. Impressed by her skill, blues artist and composer Willie Dixon helped Taylor sign a deal with the famed Chess Records, where the duo would put out the release Wang Dang Doodle — one of her most famous songs. Taylor went on to perform around the globe alongside legends such as B.B. King and Muddy Waters. After Chess went out of business in the 1970s, she moved to Alligator Records. She shared in a best traditional blues recording Grammy Award in 1984 for the compilation album Blues Explosion and was nominated several other times over the years. For a time, she also operated a nightclub in Chicago. "Blues is my life," she once said. "It's a true feeling that comes from the heart, not something that just comes out of my mouth. Blues is what I love, and blues is what I always do." Taylor continued to release albums periodically over the years and was a stalwart on the blues touring circuit, except in 1988 after being seriously injured in a van accident while on tour and in 2003 after she suffered a heart attack and remained in a coma for about a month. In both instances, she returned to the stage just a year or two later. Her most recent performance took place a month ago at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis. Taylor is survived by her second husband, Hays Harris, her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  16. Not unlike his actor father, John Carradine, David was a hard-core alcoholic, and I mean drinking during filming of his Toronto-shot Kung Fu series. This is sad news all-round.
  17. This is very fresh news, so no details are available. From Fox News: “Kill Bill†star David Carradine was found dead in a Bangkok hotel room Wednesday, his manager told FOX News Thursday. His manager told FOX News that it is believed the actor died of natural causes. Carradine, 73, was staying in Bangkok while shooting a movie. The film crew became aware of his absence when they went to dine out at a restaurant yesterday. When a producer went to his room, he discovered that the actor had died. Carradine was best known for his role in the television series “Kung Fu.â€
  18. Most of the Jays starters don't pitch that many innings or throw too many pitches. Halladay is abnormal that way. In 2005, Roy had 5 complete games, 4 in 2006, 7 in 2007 and 9 in 2008. If anything, he's stronger now than before his shoulder injury (I can't see him getting more than 5-6 this year, and he won't catch that Greinke kid in KC). And all pitchers have injuries, but Roy's are often non-pitching related. However, Brad Arnsberg said that Halladay's forearm injury - a strain - was due to Roy adding a cut fastball into his usual rotation in 2005. May 31, 2007: Missed 18 games (appendicitis). May 11, 2007: Appendicitis, 15-day DL. Apr 22, 2006: Missed 9 games (forearm injury). Apr 11, 2006: Forearm injury, day-to-day. Mar 16, 2006: Signed by the Toronto Blue Jays to a three-year contract extension. Oct 2, 2005: Missed 76 games to the end of the season (left leg injury). Jul 9, 2005: Left leg injury, 15-day DL (left leg injury). Sep 21, 2004: Missed 61 games (right shoulder injury). Jul 20, 2004: Right shoulder injury, 15-day DL (retroactive to July 17th). Jun 12, 2004: Missed 14 games (right shoulder injury). Jun 3, 2004: Right shoulder injury, 15-day DL (retroactive to May 28th). Jun 1, 2004: Right shoulder injury, day-to-day. Jan 22, 2004: Re-signed by the Toronto Blue Jays to a four-year contract. Jan 17, 2003: Agreed to terms on a one-year contract. Jun 30, 2001: Recalled from Syracuse (AAA). Mar 29, 2001: Optioned to Dunedin (A).
  19. What's your friend's band's name? Allison said she'll look out for them if they choose to contact her.
  20. I know this woman and I think she's a heck of a good rock photographer: http://allisonjanzen.ca/
  21. Not only that, Virgil is Butch Trucks's uncle.
  22. It hasn't caught up to Halladay, yet. He's a throwback pitcher and has been mostly managed by old school coaches, including Gibbons (former catcher) and Cito. This era's pitchers are coddled, but coddling doesn't work with Halladay - and that Halladay clone Greinke in KC. I agree with Tabler's statement last night that pitch-counts aren't that important - that it matters how hard the pitcher is throwing and whether he looks tired or not. Halladay was throwing really hard in the 9th, striking out 2 of 3. Also, do you feel comfortable taking Halladay out after one bad inning and giving the ball over to Jesse Carlson or B.J. Ryan in the 8th? I do not.
  23. Brooke may be turning man, but Sarah Jessica Parker will always have a horse face:
  24. And dancehall queen Lady Ga Ga has recently been "outed" as a hermaphrodite and Bill Wyman looks like he takes estrogen pills. Look 'em up if you are bored.
  25. Harsh. You forgot to put quotes or purple emphasis on 'friends.' I buy everything and I'm not going to be someone's free music library. Fuck 'em.
