http://www.unionsquareinn.com/ I stayed there last month... it was clean, central, and cheap (for Christmas in NYC).
  2. Oh man, the VAT in Red Deer was a ton of fun last time we were there. They made us drink 'Chartreuse'.... some kind of crazy green stuff. Drink it. There weren't too many people there but man were we smashed! Have a good run! "Green Chartreuse (110 proof or 55%, and from which the name of the color is derived), a naturally green liqueur flavored with extracts from 130 plants. Its coloring comes from chlorophyll."
  3. The 'Martian' jam definately got cut short however, as I was watching the clock getting closer to midnight. We probably would've added 10 more minutes to it if we could've. We almost missed the countdown.
  4. Best to you Aaron. It's a tough road to travel. I know a good handful of people who really need to do the same as well as folks who have conquered their demons and have been able to shine even brighter as a direct result.
  5. Thanks Ottawa! Again, another fantastic NYE in our favourite city. I had an amazing night - lots of fun, booze, fun and more fun. Too much fun. See y'all again soon.
  6. We had a little jam last night at our Rancho christmas party... NOW I'm even more excited for nye. 12 days!
  7. I thought that was Billy Joel in the picture! Eeeeks! I've got another one. I know K-OS.

    I am so sad

Ah dude... I'm so sorry for you Adam. I haven't seen her in a while, but I still remember her bouncing around Empress back in the Bay. I didn't know she wasn't doing well. Take it easy my friend - she'll always be with you in your memories.
  9. I know Charlie Sexton. I was lucky enough to record with him last summer - he produced and played on the new Peter Elkas CD. He's an amazing guy, a brilliant musician, and he actually shared our weird sense of humour. We spent long hours in the studio in July where he lived on four quad-lattes a day and all wound up at Ted's for last call every night for two weeks. He was telling us he had to turn down a gig playing and touring with Tom Waits in August to do our CD. We appologized. Charlie was taken under the wings of the Vaughn brothers, Stevie Ray and Jimmy, back when he was just young. He went on to do his own stuff, play in the Arc Angels, tour with Bob Dylan, and become a highly sought after collaborator and producer.
  10. Andy was still playing bass with El Torpedo last week when I saw them all.
  11. Gavin's cousin, a session guy from LA, was the keyboard player for LIVE for a few years. We were living in Montreal in 2000 and they came through to play the Molson Centre. Big Sugar opened. We got backstage passes and were asked to bring some pot with us. None of us were fans of the band, at all, but we figured it'd be a laugh. We showed up and got the bassist and Gav's cousin really really really baked before the show. They played the gig wearing sunglasses and were visably (to us anyway) ultra stoned. Gav and I watched from stage right, while the other guys were directly at stage level on the left. The singer, Ed, comes over during 'Lightnig Crashes' or some shit and looks at the crowd and says something like "Come on everyone, let's see you all standing on your feet and clapping your hands!". Everyone gets up... The guys said that he definately noticed the four of them not doing anything of the sort and looking quite bored... and he kind of gave them a pissed off look. So afterwards, backstage, we're drinking all the band's Heineken and eating their rider trays. Ed shows up, notices the four assholes and their friends who sat side stage and didn't give a shit, drinking his beer, as well as being the only people in the backstage area. He says... "Is this fuckin rock 'n roll or what? Where the fuck are all the chicks man? I just had a gay dude hitting on me in a meet and greet." We got a pretty good kick out of it.
  12. Congrats to those guys. I saw Matt play in NYC last week and he had Jimmy Vivino (guitarist from the Max Weinberg 7) jamming with him on organ. El Torpedo keyboardist Robbie had met him the night before on a gig and asked him to come sit in at The Living Room. I guess it was the right connection to make. Sly Stallone is the guest tonight too.
  13. [color:purple]I'm planning on just having a quiet night with my wife up North. I'll be sending a sub to Ottawa to do the gig for me.

  16. I expect we'll have all the more fun at this show after our rain-out today. Revival Dear is also on the bill.
  17. CANCELLED! RAINED OUT! Oh well... it was pretty brutal in that square... wind and water everywhere... definately not safe. Too bad... would've been fun. At least we still got PAID.
