PROJECT COORDINATOR: ARTS AND LEARNING: A CALL TO ACTION

TWO YEAR POSITION

Canada needs citizens who can find innovative responses to the challenges and opportunities presented by the diverse and complex modern world. Engagement with cultural expression strengthens the creative process, encourages social harmony and – through fostering the process of learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together – develops individuals of confidence, imagination and transformative vision. For these reasons, this initiative is intended to ensure that, as a point of principle, access to learning about the arts and culture, and to the expression of humanity’s cultural heritage, becomes a fundamental element of learning in Canada.

Under the supervision of the National Director of the Canadian Conference of the Arts, who shares project responsibility with the Director of the Canada Council for the Arts, the President of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO And the Chair of the Canadian Public Arts Funders, the ideal candidate has:

- extensive knowledge of arts education programs, activities, policies and practices in Canada;

- experience in developing and implementing national advocacy and communication strategies;

- the ability to organize and lead consultations with various stakeholders with a view to establishing an on-going network;

- demonstrated project management skills and experience in developing and managing budgets, work plans, and deadlines;

- demonstrated fundraising skills;

- creative problem solving skills and knowledge of research methodologies;

- proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook Express and Internet Explorer (knowledge of web development, management and communications would be an asset);

- experience using and maintaining databases;

- the ability to work efficiently and cooperatively both independently and as part of a small team.

Such knowledge and skills will have been acquired through the completion of a university degree in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of project management experience in the arts sector.

This position requires the use of both official languages and is located in Ottawa, Ontario. The incumbent is required to travel up to 35 days per year.
