Jaimoe
From TSN:The Boston Bruins have traded Joe Thornton to the San Jose Sharks for Marco Sturm, Brad Stuart and Wayne Primeau. Details to follow...
Jaimoe
The Bruins management can go fuck themselves. Pierre MacGuire was furious about this trade a few minutes ago on TSN. He said it was a terrible trade for the Bruins. I like all the players involved, but this is awful news in Bruin land. The Sharks are looking great down the middle. Guest Low Roller
Big move indeed! I thought that Thornton was going to be a franchise player, ala Ray Bourque, and play the majority of his career in Boston.I guess Boston realized they were ten points behind THE SABRES and thought it was time to shake things up. AD
according to The Team, Thornton is totally shocked and a little upset. He just signed the final papers on a 3 million dollar condo on Monday.AD
Booche
I would be too if I were him. "I got traded for a PS1 and some left-over Canada Day toilet paper as well as the shittier Primeau?"

Guest Low Roller
Apparently he was out to dinner with his parents in a Boston restaurant when he got the call. His parents were down from Canada to watch him play against the Sens...

badams
Thornton at one point wasn't even going to re-sign with the Bruins. He liked his teammates however and decided to overlook any friction he had with the ownership. Just goes to show you no one is safe in sports. dave-O
The old adage goes, "The team that's gets the best player always wins the deal." Like there's even a question with this one.The Sharks and Bruins are both major disappointments this season. Sturm and Stuart are both quality, young players, Primeau is a decent utility role guy. But how does trading your number 1 center (and only "superstar") improve a floundering team? 25 games in and they've already given up?Great acquisition by the Sharks. Goaltending has been their biggest problem so far, I wouldn't be surprised if they turn it around become a contender again. 9 points out of a playoff spot with 58 games remaining... dave-O
Just a note to Leafs fans, Toronto could NOT have got Joe Thornton for Nik Antropov, Wade Belak and Aki Berg.(credit to Kevin Gibson at hockeybuzz.com)
badams
I find it strange that the Bruins didn't at least try to shop him around. Many of the GM's are saying they had no idea Boston was willing to move him.

dave-O
Good question badams. You have to assume they were only looking at Western Conference teams to make a deal with. But why wouldn't the Bruins be looking for highly touted prospects as opposed to underachievers? Strange deal to say the least.
ollie
No doubt David Frost is thankful to Boston that he's not the lead headline this morning.
Jaimoe
Last night Bob MacKenzie said something along these lines: Who's Boston going to build their franchise around, Alexei Zhamnov?Mike O'Connell won't last until the end of January. I never liked him as a player either.
dave-O
I keep thinking about this. How do you not AT LEAST get Patrick Marleau in this deal?

How do you not AT LEAST get Patrick Marleau in this deal?I have no idea and from all the stuff I've been reading it appears Boston approached SJ. I'm very confused.
