hamilton
Hey all - we're going to Ottawa this weekend, and we're hoping someone can recommend a reasonably-priced hotel or motel to stay at. We don't want to stay in a fleabag, but we don't want to pay through the nose, either.Any recommendations would be most welcome.
bradm
Do you need to be downtown, as in The Byward Market and Rideau Centre? If so, there's a Novotel that's right beside the Rideau Centre. There's also a Days Inn in the same area that I know people have had good times at for NYE shows.Aloha,Brad
Hartamophone
There's an Econo Lodge just East down Rideau Street from the market. It's about a ten-fifteen minute walk from the market, and will probably be much cheaper than something right there. I've had some good friends stay there (as I used to live right across the street) and they had positive things to say.
AD
novotel has small small rooms, but wicked 32 inch wall-mounted plasma tvs. bring a screwdriver and take home a souvenir!
Freeker
I highly recommend Minto Suites Hotel. Stay there all the time, not the cheapest of all but the cheapest of the best, you get a full size apartment to yourself in downtown Ottawa, can't beat that. Plus pool, sauna, fitness room hot tub access.http://www.mintohotel.com/ Edited February 21, 2006 by Guest
ollie
There's also a Quality Hotel at the corner of Rideau and King Edward. Great location -- you are right on the cusp of the Byward Market and probably decent rates.http://www.ottawakiosk.com/hotelinfo/25837.htmlIt's also directly across the street from what was at one point the largest liquor store in Ontario. Also right across the street from a 24 hour grocery store. But it all depends what part of town you want to stay.
snarfmaster C
if you're looking for cheap, the Ottawa Backpakers Hostel in the market is a good place - clean and friendly - and close to everything. You can get a private room there, though i'm not too sure how much they cost, i've only ever stayed in the bunk rooms.i believe they have a website. Freeker
If we're talking hostels then the Ottawa Jail Hostel is the best and I'm not just saying that because it was my first home in Ottawa. Right downtown, clean and super friendly with a working gallows taboot. Rooms are cheap, 4 to a cell or private rooms available.check it outhttp://www.hihostels.ca/hostels/Ontario/OntarioEast/OttawaInternationalHostel/Hostels/

My friend is into wicca and went there on halloween. She was telling me something like the top floor was closed to the public because of the ghosts. Who knows but I've always wanted to chat it up with a ghost.
Freeker
The top floor i believe is haunted. One night the front desk guy and i smoked a joint and he showed it to me, all the old jail stuff is up there , torture logs, torture equiptment lots of pictures. Its freaky as hell. The best part of the jail is that the solitary confinement cell is right next to the Drunk Tank cell. Scare ya sober real quick.

(I'm not sure if that was meant to be a selling point, or a deterrent).
