Dr_Evil_Mouse
. It was one of those rough parenting moments the day I had to explain to our elder daughter why he's not still alive. I was twelve at the time and living in France, and the effect there was huge. The English class that day was given over to a Lennon memorial. ollie
I got chills this morning listening to a replay of the Howard Cosell announcement during Monday Night Football."Dead. On. Arrival."Somehow fitting that Cosell broke the news.

StoneMtn
I remember that day very well. I remember asking, "Who's John Lennon?"I learned a lot that day.Very tragic; very senseless; very sad. RIP.
bouche
A TributeI wish I had more time to enjoy him while he was alive. I remember the day he died, but I don't think I knew who he was. I was in grade 4 I believe.

TimmyB
This is always a difficult time of year for Beatles fans, with the anniversary of the passing of George Harrison only days before (November 29, 2001).There is no sadder death in popular music than that of John Lennon, one could only imagine (no pun intended) what his commentary would have been in the world today.May you rest in peace John and though I know you do not believe in Heaven, I know you are there.Tim
StoneMtn
Did he actually not believe in Heaven, or did he just "Imagine there's no Heaven?"
bradm
Did he actually not believe in Heaven, or did he just "Imagine there's no Heaven?"Actually, he's asking/telling us (or his set of listeners) to imagine there's no heaven. I don't think there's any indication of what he actually believes anywhere in the song (although "Imagine there's no heaven / It's easy if you try" would seem to imply he had tried imagining it).Aloha,Brad
TimmyB
Did he actually not believe in Heaven, or did he just "Imagine there's no Heaven?"I believe the lyrics to this John Lennon song answers that question.God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain, I'll say it again, God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain, I don't believe in magic, I don't believe in I-ching, I don't believe in bible, I don't believe in tarot, I don't believe in Hitler, I don't believe in Jesus, I don't believe in Kennedy, I don't believe in Buddha, I don't believe in mantra, I don't believe in Gita, I don't believe in yoga, I don't believe in kings, I don't believe in Elvis, I don't believe in Zimmerman, I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me, Yoko and me, And that's reality. The dream is over, What can I say? The dream is over, Yesterday, I was dreamweaver, But now I'm reborn, I was the walrus, But now I'm John, And so dear friends, You just have to carry on, The dream is over.
