Cully
I am looking to get some new (non-jamband) studio CDs and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.I have been listening to MMJ and Ween type stuff lately and I would also love to get some singer/songwriter albums. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.
bradm
Do you have "You Were Here" by Sarah Harmer? It's one of my favourites (although "I'm A Mountain" is also good, leaning more towards bluegrassy stuff than YWH, which has electric/rockier tunes on it).Aloha,Brad
AD
I have been meaning to write a review of this album for the site but haven't got around to it yetThe Bees - Octopusit is fantastic. edit - not very "singer/songwriter though" sorry Edited February 1, 2007 by Guest
zero
Seriously dude I've got the thing for you. M. Ward. M. Fucking. Ward. The guy is a total dude and you just get so stuck on him and his voice and how much he can do with just a few tracks. I really love the whole Transistor Radio album which is second to last, Post-War is the new one. Although track down End of Amnesia () or Transgressions of Vincent. I guess he played a killer show in TO the ohter night and Royal Wood was in the crowd and someone requested an old tune (Bubblegum?) and he needed a piano player and Royal just popped up. He taught him the tune on the fly and then Iguess Royal's like heads down M. loops his guitar and just strolls off stage after a while. Royal sort of looks up and realizes he's gone and just keeps playing. M came back and they jammed more or something. I wanted to get it from Royal's mouth he was supposed to play a noon show here but it was cancelled.
AD
yeah i heard that story on CBC yesterday. M Ward is alright I guess. The track CBC played from Royal Wood's new album really got me, i have to track down that album.I like Bonnie Prince Billy more than M Ward. But he is good live, I've seen him maybe twice and it's a great show. Just can't really get into it in my living room.

Northern Wish
For stunners, not just good albums:Death Cab for Cutie- PlansM Ward- Post WarCold War Kids- Robbers and CowardsRyan Adams- Jacksonville City NightsBright Eyes- I'm Wide Awake, It's MorningThe Decemberists- PicaresqueMason Jennings- Use Your VoiceRay LaMontagne- TroublePearl Jam- newest releaseAnd I would even put the new Hip release World Container up on that list.......Seanps. Ray is a recluse. Lives off the grid in a cabin way outside of Lewiston, ME. estranged from his family. How does a guy like that maintain a recording contract and touring obiligations? And yes Till the Sun Turns Black is absolute garbage. Edited February 1, 2007 by Guest
slavetothegroove
Definately agree with the Ray Lamontagne suggestion, just recently discovered him, great lyricist and has such soul and spirit in his vocals. You still working at HMV Cully?
