Jaimoe
Booche emailed me the particulars today. I can't wait! The idea that they are also producing a sequel to The Hobbit is fascinating. I'm also loving Jackson teaming with Spielberg to do a Tintin triology. From Ain't It Cool: Here Come THE HOBBIT(s)!!!!! Merrick here... Word is flying fast & furious: Team Jackson, New Line, and MGM have made nice and are gearing up to launch 2 HOBBIT movies. One will be an adaptaion of J.R.R. Tolkien's THE HOBBIT. The second project is believed to be a bridge between THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy - culled from the titanic amount of periphery/ancillary/notated material found in Tolkien's works. Such material can already be seen in the exiting films. Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will Executive Produce; no word on whether Jackson will direct just yet. Last year, an AICN interview with LORD OF THE RINGS composer Howard Shore indicated he'd already begun toying with HOBBIT themes & whatnot...immediately therafter the shit hit the fan. Maybe he'll get a chance to share his music with us after all? This press release will tell you more: ACADEMY AWARD-WINNER PETER JACKSON AND NEW LINE CINEMA JOIN WITH MGM TO PRODUCE “THE HOBBIT,†EAGERLY-ANTICIPATED FANTASY ADVENTURE EPIC NEW LINE AND MGM TO CO-PRODUCE AND SHARE WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS PETER JACKSON AND FRAN WALSH TO EXECUTIVE PRODUCE TWO FILMS BASED ON “THE HOBBIT†Los Angeles, CA (Tuesday, December 18, 2007) Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson; Harry Sloan, Chairman and CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. Jaimoe
I hope Jackson directs The Hobbit. I've heard that he may only produce although undoubtedly with a heavy hand. I'm hoping that if he doesn't direct, that he picks Sam Raimi (rumoured) or one of those excellent Harry Potter directors like Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell or David Yates. Even better would be Guillermo Del Toro (Mimic, Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth)

Jaimoe
I can't wait for The Dark Knight. Tintin fucking rules. Jackson and Spielberg will do a great job. Andy Serkis (Smeagol) has signed on, probably as Captain Haddock, the drunkest cartoon character ever.

Kanada Kev
Damn, i DID see it. I've just forgotten the details. I do remember REALLY enjoying it though and thinking it was the best one so far too. I've been digging a lot of the stuff leaking out about this release too. Seen the new posters? Jack may be pissed that they didn't ask him back for the role, but i think that would have ruined it.
Jaimoe
And the bar has been raised realism-wise thanks to directors interpreting dark graphic novels. I think we've seen the last of campy crap comic adaptations. Even film adaptations of humanist cartoons have been excellent: Ghost World, American Splendor and From Hell (a pretty good film). Booche
Sin CityAnd those posters smoke Kev, although they dont seem to be loading for me on the board. I am just assuming you are putting up the ones of the Joker. I loooooooove the Why So Serious? one.
allison
The Hobbit is an obvious move...should be awesome.I don't really get the rumoured "in between" film bridging The Hobbit and The Ring cycle(there isn't that much of a logistic gap there anyway). It seems risky to create a movie that isn't based on a literary path...the ancillary material in that period doesn't follow a plot...could get messy and in my opinion they shouldn't venture past Tolkiens actually produced plots(meaning books he wrote). The Simarillion is the precursor to The Hobbit...and gives the background/history that the whole series is set upon...it makes more sense that they would be using this as base material.Doing reverse chronology a la Star Wars.Except I recall The Simarillion being a painful read. allison
I should add I think I was only 12/13 when I first read it..and never really went back.Also...as far as graphic novel adaptations that haven't been made but are in the works....Frank Miller's Ronin...FUCK YES!!! Rob Not Bob
Exactly Jaimoe. That is why this version of the Joker is going to be far better.I particularly like the rumor that , unlike the last time, they aren't going to try to explain the Joker's back story, he is just going to show up and start causing havoc (like he did in the original comic). badams
I'm not sure about Heath Ledger as the Joker. I just hope he doesn't try to hump Batman.
