Massey Hall & Luminato present

On January 19, 1971, Canada’s legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young performed solo at Massey Hall. Audiences there heard for the first time many of the iconic songs that would later appear on his albums, including his best-selling LP Harvest – yet the live concert recording itself wasn’t released until 2007.

Now, as part of the Luminato Festival, a stellar group of Canadian musicians, led by Juno Award winning music director Kevin Breit, will recreate that landmark concert, performing their own distinctive arrangements of the album’s eighteen classic songs.

The concert features: Holly Cole, Jason Collett, Cowboy Junkies, Bill Frisell Trio, Issa (formerly Jane Siberry), Colin Linden, Harry Manx, Danny Michel, Steven Page, Rosanne Potvin, Carole Pope.

Entertainment Reporter

Luminato organizers this morning announced more details of the concert Canadian Songbook: A Tribute to Neil Young's Live at Massey Hall.

The event, which will recreate Young's legendary 1971 Toronto concert, will feature 18 songs and up to 18 bands, with a star-studded lineup including Holly Cole, Steven Page, the Cowboy Junkies, Jason Collett from Broken Social Scene and Sarah Slean. The list of performers also includes the Bill Frisell Trio, Issa (formerly Jane Siberry), Stevie Jackson, Colin Linden, Harry Manx, Danny Michel, Carole Pope and Roxanne Potvin.

Organizers say that Neil Young has been invited to the concert, and are hopeful he'll come.

The concert, scheduled for June 10 and part of the annual Luminato arts and culture festival, is a one-night-only event at Massey Hall. Tickets go on sale on April 16 through Ticketmaster.

Issa (formerly Jane Siberry)

The fuck?

From

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Siberry#Issa

Early in 2006' date=' Siberry closed her Sheeba office, then sold and gave away nearly all of her possessions—including her home and instruments. She presently retains one travelling guitar, but none of the other instruments featured on her albums and in her concerts. In 2006, she told The Globe and Mail that she had kept a very few precious possessions, including her Miles Davis CDs, in storage.[3']

On June 3, 2006, somewhere in northwestern Europe, Siberry changed her name to Issa. She revealed her new name to the public on June 24, 2006. She has also indicated, however, that her older music will remain available for sale under the name Jane Siberry; only her new material will be released as Issa. She indicated to The Globe and Mail that she chose the name Issa as a feminine variant of Isaiah.[3]

On July 4, 2006, she gave a lecture at University of British Columbia in Vancouver on the topic of "Cracking the Egg: A Look from the Inside". She began with a poetic meditation on science and life, and then opened the floor up to questions from the audience. She talked about her recent adventures in decommodifying her life, her change in name, and her new conception of herself as an artist.

Aloha,

Brad
