Tungsten Gruvsten
yeah i hear ya - move my phone over to Rogers or move my internet over to Bell. Both seem equally bad but one bill would be nice...

Rary8
I want to buy a couple of specialty channels. They tell me the best way for me to do that is to upgrade to their VIP package. another $36.00. How is paying $36.00 'the best way to pay for 2 new channels'?I would like to pay the $2.69 a month or whatever they normally charge.I also hate being put on hold when i'm paying for the minutes. That's like twenty minutes of hold.I'm trying their webpage but i don't find it user friendly. I'm afraid to call those 'hold' bitches.I know a guy who works for Rogers in some fashion. I'm going to start giving him a hard time. If i find he works with customer service i'm going to dedicate my life to fucking him over. Too bad he's a great guy and i like him, but revenge is first! bouche
with videotron in quebec, we can choose the channels that we want "Ala carte". I like that option and that's the way it should be if you prefer. But in quebec, there is no access to a number of great HD channels that you can get on rogers.learn to hack a satellite, and you'll be home free! Kanada Kev
Get your high speed internet through a secondary provider. My research showed that this is a great alternative (and Canadian):http://www.teksavvy.com/en/index.aspGive them a call (their operators are in CANADA!!!) and they'll explain what they can do for you at your current location.Get Vonage http://www.vonage.ca/ for your phone. $19.95 a month for TONS of features and far superior to Bell/Rogers VOIP phones. I've had this for a couple of years now and love it.For your HD TV, get an OTR antennae. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10901&cs_id=1090102&p_id=4730&seq=1&format=2 You'd be AMAZED at how much you can pick up. The higher up you can get your antennae the better. Mine is on the side of my house and it picks up about 10-12 HD stations (uncompressed) and a bunch of SD channels. Other than that, get a Megashares, Megaupload, Rapidshare, etc. account and simply download all your HD content. Works like a charm for me. phishtaper
an HD TV antenna for the roof? how many channels do you get, Kev? and would it make a difference that Im way up north here in Guelph? it would be sooooooo nice to not give rogers that much money every month, but i need my hgtv and food network. Kanada Kev
AHHHH ... HGTV and FOOD Network are cable only stations afaik. You'd never get those from an antenna How many stations you'll get seems to be determined by how high you can get your antenna and boosting the signal with an amp (often come with the antenna). I did a quick search and here's what one guy is getting in Guelph (just the digital channels, you get more UHH/VHF as well): WGRZ-DT 2.1 WGRZ-DT 2.2 WIVB-HD 4.1 CBLT-DT 5.1 WKBW-DT 7.1 CFTO HD 9.1 CHCH-DT 11.1 WNED-HD 17.1 WNED-SD 17.2 WNED-TH 17.3 WNLO-HD 23-1 CBLFT-D25.1 CTS-HD36.1 OMNI-2 44.1 OMNI-1 64-1 Here's the thread: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-sat/thread.cgi?3878 You may want to call this person too and grab a tower http://guelph.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-home-garden-TV-Antenna-Tower-W0QQAdIdZ143557891 Edited July 29, 2009 by Guest
phishtaper
cool, thanks kev. i googled that same discussion page and just got confused by their jargon. but it seems that going the antenna route will result in a limited number of stations. free, but not many. ugh. Jaimoe
The HD antenna route will end in the next year or two. I find Rogers the better of the evil cable empires. The TV signals are more reliable and the packages are superior (but all have their quirks). I could get a Bell discount if I switched, but their TV signal is unreliable during storms, and we get lots of storms in this country. One thing is for sure is that Rogers home phone sucks ass. My research showed that this is a great alternative (and Canadian):http://www.teksavvy.com/en/index.aspGive them a call (their operators are in CANADA!!!) and they'll explain what they can do for you at your current location.but doesn't Bell throttle them? that's what they told me last year when I was looking into leaving Rogers. I get super fast DL speeds with Rogers, which is the only reason that I haven't yet left them. Yak seems to also have some good delas for phone and internet. They offer "Up to 5 Mbps download speed." But wouldn't they also get throttled from Bell?
TheAlphaNerd
Well either way it's still only 5 mbit... rogers is at like 10 mbit for their high speed service

SaggyBalls
I've had nothing but great service with my Rogers Cellphone.Especially when I call them perplexed at why my phone bill is so high and ask them if there's anything they can suggest to help me.I now have free evenings and weekends, 1000 LD minutes, 200 weekday minutes, call waiting call answer, call display, loads of text messages, and auto roadside assistance for less than $50 a month.I bet there's a better plan out there somewhere, but I always get courteous service and great options.I'm curious how their wireless internet works..r.
