dave-O
2010/03/03 Toronto Maple Leafs traded Lee Stempniak to the Phoenix Coyotes for Matt Jones and a 4th and 7th round selections in 2010.Way to parlay those assets.
Whitey
What had Stempniak done in a year in a half before the trade to Phoenix? Something is better than nothing.
Booche
DaveO, didnt you pay attention to Low Roller? This is how the Leafs should rebuild. It's smart man. All these low round draft picks that they are securing will pay off in the end.Purple.

Whitey
I know I am fighting a losing battle, but the rebuild seems to be taking shape. One of the youngest teams in the league, with some quality assests. Definately ahead of schedule in my mind. A few more moves by Burke over the summer and we will be making the playoffs next year. (Not in purple).
Booche
God bless you Whitey. You remind me of my personal Raiders fandom.
dave-O
How about they let first-rounder Alex Steen (or Brad Boyes? or Anton Stralman? etc) develop for more than 2 seasons before they give up on them.Leaf draft picks 2000-2007 that are everyday NHLers:Brad BoyesCarlo ColaiacovoKyle WellwoodAlexander SteenMatthew StajanIan WhiteJohn MitchellTuukka RaskAnton StralmanNikolai KuleminViktor StalbergCarl Gunnarsson

MrBigTime
The Kessel trade is not a mistake. Would you trade Kessel away for the first overall draft pick in the next draft? (Lottery = strong % chance of this happening)29 other NHL teams would IMO...
Booche
And next years 1st rounder. This was a rebuilding team at the time of the trade. It says one thing to me: Leafs just issued their third jersey:
Whitey
I guess we have a different opinion on Kessel. He has been a stud this year and has 2 back to back 30 goal seasons. He scored 30 playing for the Leafs this year. I think the best is yet to come with him. As for the 3rd jersey, good one!
Schwa.
ha! like the 3rd jersey gold shirts there Boo(b)che. There is promise there I think. Good or bad, it's just nice to see a Toronto GM finally say something and then do it.

AD
Good or bad, it's just nice to see a Toronto GM finally say something and then do it.would love to see the quote of him saying that despite his best intentions, the team will be garbage and golfing by the second week of April. dave-O
Actually AD, when he first took the job he said (paraphrasing) "This is going to be a 5 year plan, it ain't gonna be pretty for the short term."Then at the start of this season he said they'd be competing for a playoff spot.Remember that? AD
Excellent. No, I didn't remember that (I don't pay much attention to Burke) but at least that shows he's a little bit sensible and realistic. Carry on....
dave-O
sensible and realistic? Did you miss the part where he predicted they'd compete for the playoffs THIS year?!

hamilton
sensible and realistic? Did you miss the part where he predicted they'd compete for the playoffs THIS year?!Doesn't a GM kind of HAVE to say that, though? I don't think any GM just comes out and says, "Well, we're obviously never going to make it to the post-season this year." That's not exactly going to motivate the players.
