dave-O
This is the thread where I gush about the new Kanye leaking yesterday. First impression is it's incredibly bloated, over-thought and over-produced (the Chinese Democracy of hip hop, if you will). BUT it's also the album of the year. Hands down. Wonder if Walmart's going to be ok with the cover art?
Guest Low Roller
I never got into Kanye. He does have some good beats, but his flow is weak. He should stick to producing I think, but I'll give this latest album a listen for sure. My hip-hop album of the year so far is Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot. SUPER tight album, possibly better than anything Outkast put out as a unit.
dave-O
The pitch-shift verse in Blame Game is some innovative shit. Never really heard this done before.
Northern Wish
You are trying too hard to stay hip Dave.
dave-O
No idea what that even means, but please tell me more about what I'm "trying" to do.
Jaimoe
I worked the concept movie premiere for the new album and I liked almost every overwrought song. Kanye doesn't have much of a singing voice, but it doesn't matter too much. I think the album will be on top of many year end Best Of lists. Freeker
Kanye is a joke The real Hip Hop Album of the year in 2010 is... Big Boi surprised me, I used to hate Outkast but I love his new album.
Guest Low Roller
I love Talib! Somehow this album sneaked in under my radar. Definitely going to give this a listen.
Guest Low Roller
Gotta look out for the new Curren$y album coming out soon. It could take top honours based on the first single (it really grows on you)
questcequecest?
I just grabbed that last night (RPM's)... great album!
thatpatguy
Talib snuck under my radar too.. gonna have to get that one soon.I haven't heard the full Big Boi record yet but if the single Shutterbug is any indication of what the rest of the album is like it's going to be off the hook!rWsvkW6rKkQ
dave-O
I've never really gotten into Kweli, but I like BPM. Lots of piano and vintage sounding keys. But no anthems, imo.
Freeker
Anthems, Kanye !?! Dave-O, brother, you're breaking my heart. You just named two things that are ruining hip hop. I recommend 10 CC's of Black Star stat followed up by some Wale mixtape injections
thatpatguy
Wale mixtapes are mindblowing... some of the best hip hop coming out right now if you ask me.

jaybone
Knowing most of you in this thread as I do, I find this to be a strange, yet enlightening conversation.I like the tunes posted. I really don't keep up with hip hop, but it can really hit the spot when I'm in the right mood.

zero
I'm actually incredibly impressed by Kanye's new one but perhaps more the video and live SNL treatment of Runway largely. In fairness the Hip Hop Album Of The Year is eponymous (it really doesn't get any better for producer/rappers - particularly ones who let their work speak for itself)
Guest Low Roller
The Reflection Eternal album is real good. Still not convinced it is better than Big Boi though. Now on to the Kanye album.
ollie
Finally getting around to my first listen... I honestly forgot what Kanye sounded like sans auto tune. Is that gone for good now? Please say yes.
ollie
Is [auto tune] gone for good now?Ha, ha, I guess I should have listened to the rest of the disc before asking *that* dumb question.Great album!
Guest Low Roller
The album has great songs on it, but I wouldn't call it a great album. Sorry for haterating.
ollie
10.0 from Pitchfork:http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14880-my-beautiful-dark-twisted-fantasy/Was the CD released with different covers? The one I saw at HMV had the ballerina cover but I want to get the one posted at the top of this thread.
Guest Low Roller
Yeah, I saw that 10.0 by Pitchfork. Opinions may vary I suppose.Yeah, Kanye released a different cover for the stores. Can't let artistic integrity get in the way of sales figures yo.
