  1. I envy those in Toronto who can attend this show... I haven't seen them live yet. Dragonette is Dan Kurtz' and Martina Sorbara's new baby, a sexy pop outfit that has been recording and touring in the UK (with shitidiot as tour manager) You can read about them here: http://www.jambands.com/Features/content_2007_04_22.05.phtml
  2. The difference is that the Whistler show was a festival set - the 2006 World Ski and Snowboard Festival. As far as I know they've played two other festival sets in Canada (The Big Summer Classic in Toronto and Ottawa) but this was in fact, their first full solo concert.
  3. No, hardly a review... but I didn't title it that... as Ollie said. I find reviews boring to write and boring to read. Really I just wanted to share photos and a cool moment. Sorry if that rattles your chain a bit Booche... I know you love a nasty review.
  4. Good points. It would be considered poor journalism though if I totally ignored those issues. While I'll touch on them I'm interested in looking at him in a new light, asking questions that demonstrate that we dont all know him as well as we think we do. From my research I've found that even when interviewers did not ask about The Beatles, Captain America, Laurie etc... he tends to bring them up anyways. I think they're important to him. I'll definitely ask if he's still making movies, and the funniest thing that ever happened to him might be nice...
  5. what would it be? I've got an interview coming up, provided all goes well and he's feeling it *fingers crossed* (Ottawa show May 4th!)
  6. Why dont you do Zaphods phorbsie? I like the poets enough to go early to the Acres show and hopefully catch them. I wouldn't though go to a Poets headliner... The poets are really great at what they do, their sound is powerful and succinct. Its just not quite my style - yet, both times I've seen them I was impressed.
  7. Actually, I think you're correct. McCormack played with Howe Gelb's 'Sno Angel crew (McCormack's words that were originally in the story), but I dont think he was on the album...best of my understanding is he played part of the tour. That small detail was changed, by my editor, who I think was mistaken... Good eye. Did I like their music... hmm.. Yes, but. Thats my answer - Yes, but. It didn't get me crazy or sit in the cd player for more than a few days...
  8. Thanks... I keep forgeting today's Thursday. Umphrey's erased my memory. So wooden stars, I dunno... did I do them justice?
  9. Brad, CJ I'm responding here because I know you're both genuinely concerned. Lukes family does know what's going on. Luke doesn't agree with their thoughts on whats best for him, what he needs etc so hence the "my family has deserted me." This is a serious situation not a joke. The paranoia is only one aspect of a clearly messed situation. Lynne. I'm at a loss. I'm sending you a pm.
  10. Hilarious! As sheriff of the Westboro castle I hereby declare this the funniest thread today.
  11. Oh yeah. By the way. DMST was the best show I've seen this year. Totally inspiring.
  12. Bouche is popo your aunt? Why does this not surprise me?
  13. So nice to see those. You had some talented and brave artists there Allison! Well done. That was a great session, hopefully the first of many
  14. Are you doing the Ottawa Xpress article? I could give you more info than you could ever need' date=' but it might be a conflict of interest (I work with them, their new album is on Sonic Unyon, where I work). The Rheostatics loved them, and had them open up a whole week of shows for them at the Ultrasound Show Bar in Toronto back in like 1994, before their first album was out. Dave Bidini claims that the Rolling Stones came to one of the shows they played together there (at a different time) but when Bidini outed Jagger for being there, the band got up and left. The Wooden Stars' Josh Latour accepted their 2000 Juno Award. Since he was the only band member living in Toronto he went and accepted it - and was shocked to accept it. The favourites to win that year were Thrush Hermit and Danko Jones, so when Julie and the W Stars won it was a big surprise. I was there, since we had 3 bands nominated for that award (Julie/Wooden Stars, Thrush Hermit and Tricky Woo) but I don't remember Josh telling a joke and neither does my wife. Their drummer, Andrew McCormack, also drums in Howe Gelb's band. He replaced Jeremy Gara when he got too busy with the Arcade Fire.[/quote'] Yup thats me. No conflict of interest... I'm just looking for memories, stories...
  15. You got tickets AD, Bouche? Edit - I agree that DMST is in a different class to Apostle but Apostle's 2007 album is really really good and they're the underdog tonight... Brad you can see Souljazz pretty easily/frequently. Sure you dont want to hit up either of these shows instead? I'm wonder if Apostle would be up for taping...
  16. Haha... thats priceless! So Boko, are you talking fiction or non?
  17. Cute. Do you remember the joke?
  18. I'm writing a story on them right now and they have a really deep underground history in indie rock Canada... They've returned after a 5-7 year hiatus with a brand new album. If anyone has any memories of seeing them or remembers the buzz around them I'd like to hear about it...
  19. We'll be there. Check out the interview just posted http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/239529/ Bayliss echos those exact sentiments Brad, if Toronto rocks they'll be back.
  20. That stinks. I know how stressful sleep issues can be, I've had insomnia on and off since I was a child. I think everyone else pretty much nailed the common issues. I hope you're able to work it out. Keep it in perspective, worst case scenario you wait it out. Nothing lasts for ever.
