  1. I would expand that to say most under-appreciated band in Ontario indie music. If only half the bands worked as hard as these folks did. It's been a pleasure to have worked with them for the past six years...
  2. Yes, that was me. We needed to find out how much time we had left before heading to Union to get the bus back to Hamilton. I'm also a little shy about asking people "hey, aren't you on this message board that I am on" although I am pretty sure I recognized a few faces from over the years.
  3. I am pretty sure you are right. I had on a brown/green corderuoy jacket and look pretty much like I do on my myspace page, but about 30 pounds lighter now
  4. We didn't get asked for ID, just for my name. It took a while to find it on there, but eventually they did. Sounds like the people in charge of the "party planning" purposefully invited more people figuring that 25% of those confirmed probably would not show up... I would have been hella upset if I had not got in too.
  5. I got the feeling last night that my wife and I were surrounded by people from this board. I am just basing this on the guys right behind us, one with a Grateful Dead shirt on, one of the women being named Marge, the tall dude with a cowboy shirt on behind us and the talk of Ottawa that we couldn't help but overhear
  6. What? I thought doors were at 8:15 tonight. This is from the message I got: "Monday , March 31 My Morning Jacket @ 9:00 Doors will open at 8:15pm SHARP. Tickets will be under your name at the door. Nobody will be admitted that is not on the exclusive, approved RSVP list. This is all ages show, ID required for liquor. No photography is allowed. We reserve the right to confiscate phones and cameras. Please don't bring cameras. The Producers also reserve the right to deny entrance to anyone wearing obvious logos on clothing."
  7. Our car capped out yesterday and it apparently won't be fixed in time, so I am wondering if there's anyone going to MMJ from the Hamilton area tonight that has room for my wife and I? If not, no problem, we'll just take the GO Bus but I thought I'd ask and offer up gas money if someone's got the room...
  8. I will be at the Danforth show. I am super excited about this one, I have been a big Kinks fan since my youth as my older brother used to play their stuff around the house when he lived with us. Solo acoustic would be amazing, and his new album is great!
  9. I didn't know Musebox were doing giveaways to this. If you go to the blog www.chromewaves.net they have a contest for a couple of pairs of tickets to all of the shows. My wife and I are going to the MMJ show. One of her friends set us up. She's never seen them since most of their shows are bar shows and we have 2 kiddies under five, so she's totally psyched...
  10. I think I'd almost rather have this new '73 boxed set than the 1969 Fillmore West one which I already have...
  11. Here are a few I am excited about: Antony and the Johnsons Death Angel Metallica (with Rick Rubin producing) Neil Young archives box Protest The Hero (which is actually out today) Teenage Head with Marky Ramone and, of course, the DVD issue of Iron Maiden's Live After Death, which comes out next Tuesday :content:
  12. Wintersleep is on our label, Labwork Music. We released their new album in Canada and reissued their first two in Canada and the USA.
  13. It's not really that big of a surprise. Neil, like Dylan, has always been pretty outspoken about his extreme dislike of CDs. He has said many times that the limited frequency range available detracts from the music and that he'd one day like to have all his albums deleted in this format. I look forward to getting it the archives on DVD.
  14. Hope you dig the Simply Saucer! Their new studio record (their first ever) will be released in Canada on March 11th on Sonic Unyon. Right now I am listening to a US black metal band called AVERSE SEFIRA - their new album "Advent Parallax"
  15. Yes, this is a special show we had the band do in arrangement with Edge 102. The band is doing very well touring right now. Their tour late last year with Wooden Stars was sold out straight across the country. I wouldn't be too surprised to see the band make the major jump to the next level. Great guys too!
  16. I dunno. That would be nice though - I saw them once at the Opera House in Toronto in 1997 and had tickets for another Toronto show a few years later but they cancelled it...
  17. This is something I never expected to happen, but as of yesterday I am helping out WIDESPREAD PANIC in Canada with publicity. I have been doing music promotions for 10+ years now and usually work with indie rock and metal, including bands as varied as Frank Black, Meshuggah and Sufjan Stevens, but this is my first time doing a Jam Band. So, if you write for a magazine/newspaper/website and/or do a radio show at a station in Canada and are interested, please drop me a line at sean at sonic unyon dot com and I will see what I can do as far as getting you a review copy of the new, upcoming album.
  18. The last Julie set I saw, as part of the Eric's Trip tour, was the most rocking I had ever seen her do. She sang and played drums while Dick (ex-Shotgun and Jaybird) played guitar and sang. It was very Crazy Horse-ish actually...
  19. I went to see Robyn H. It was magical. Looking forward to the Sadies tonight too!
  20. I doubt it, but thanks for your idiot response anyway. He's a side player in the band, and apparently if you read up on things this seems to be very out of the norm for him.
  21. OH MY GOD! I can't believe this. Sorta is honestly one of the best new roots rock bands in the USA right now. How they are not signed is besides me. I saw them at SXSW in 2004 and instantly fell in love with the band. This is horribly shitty news.
  22. I don't think the Wooden Stars have been all that hard to "get" for the past few records. Definitely as far as The Moon and the new album are concerned they are a lot more straightforward than their first album was(is).
  23. I dunno about that. Their fans are super diehard, to be perfectly honest, but it doesn't help that - apart from their new one and the Julie album - their albums are all out of print.
  24. Haha! Sorry about the Marmaduke typo in the VIEW article. I spelled it Maraduke because that's what it says on www.thenewriders.com - so it's really the band's fault! Should be fixed online tomorrow.
