  1. Their new collaboration is great. I picked mine up over here at the recent Mehldau Trio show, and had it autographed by the band. It's really, really good - and it's interesting to hear Metheny play with a different pianist than Lyle Mays. Eight of the ten tracks are just the two of them, and on the other two they are joined by Brad Mehldau's rhythm section, Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard. Apparently, they recorded enough quartet material for an entire second album - which should also be freakin' awesome!
  2. Miles Davis - A Tribute To Jack Johnson Mark Olson & The Creekdippers - December's Child Roy Orbison - Cryin' The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street The Jayhawks - Blue Earth
  3. What about drilling holes through your eardrums?
  4. Do you really think that the majority of people would participate if we had a vote on every decision that has to be made? Most people can't be bothered to vote in an election, let alone the daily governing process.
  5. If I'm not mistaken, Adam Deitch - the guy who was drumming for Scofield for a while - and Sam Kinninger - the sax player who joined Soulive for an album or two - were both members of this band.
  6. People are really nervous here about the new PM. Obviously, there are hundreds of years' worth of tensions between the Japan and Korea, and so the notion of a militaristic new Japanese PM does not sit too well.
  7. From www.thestar.com : Apparently even cows enjoy getting high.
  8. Damn, I wish I were at home for this! I've been trying to see these guys for years, and they always sell out so fast that I haven't been able to get tickets. It figures that they would decide to play Hamilton right after I leave town...
  9. Santana - Caravanserai Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane - Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane Whiskeytown - Pneumonia Steely Dan - Gaucho Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels On A Gravel Road
  10. Aloha, Brad I've been hearing shit like this for years (all the way back to mid-high school, actually) - right down to release dates and track listings. While I truly hope that it's true this time around, you'll forgive me for saying that I'll believe it when I actually see it on the shelf.
  11. I don't really have a problem with Exclaim! either. Like any other publication, I don't agree 100% with everything that they print, though. Sometimes they hype acts that are, essentially, crappy. Other times they slag acts that deserve more credit. Anyone who bases their musical likes and/or dislikes strictly on what a publication (be it Exclaim! or Relix) approves or disapproves of is nothing but a sheep.
  12. I agree with your sentiment - but I particularly agree with the word "ostensibly". A lot of parents would have a shit-fit if their kid avoided Confirmation, and peer-pressure alone probably makes a lot of kids who don't really care go through with the ceremony, just to fit in. I went to a Catholic school, and I can remember the reaction of all of our classmates towards the one girl who chose not to be confirmed. As you stated above, it's only a choice if you have been exposed to the options.
  13. So I went to this gig last night - it was incredible! A little less than two hours, but chock full of musical goodness. A few modern pop tunes ("Wonderwall", "Black Hole Sun", "Still Crazy After All These Years"), surrounded by some jazz standards and a bunch of originals. Afterwards they had a meet-and-greet, so I got to meet the band and they signed my CD. We had a nice little chat, and I went on my merry way. Groovy.
  14. Goodbye Jumbo is a great album, too. These guys are seriously good. Glad to see that people around here are catching on!
  15. This will be really good. Radio Guantanamo is a great album. Bunnett's last performance at PJC was excellent.
  16. He did put out a few stinkers in the mid-80s - Daring Adventures, Across A Crowded Room and Amnesia all have more than their fair share of questionable songs on them. Of course, one of his greatest albums - Hand of Kindness - came out right after the breakup. From what I have read, the Shoot Out The Lights tour was incredible - Richard and Linda would barely look at each other, and apparently had some on-stage blowouts. The incredibly high emotional quotient apparently made for some barn-burner shows.
