  1. Apparently I'm in the same frame of mind as New Rider (frightening, non?) because I'm listening to: Sonic Youth, Sonic Nurse
  2. 75% over here, too. I think dima has a good point when he said that a lot of it depended on your ability to remeber the sequence of the notes rather than just being able to differentiate between them.

    Go VOTE

DiIanni is a twit. Glad to hear that the voters realized it. I don't have the slightest clue who Fred Eisenberger is, but I hope he can get some things accomplished downtown.
  4. In your case, it might not have been the music's fault that you didn't get laid.
  5. I wonder if Road Rock, Volume 1 was the first. There didn't seem to be any good reason for putting "volume one" in the title at the time, but maybe now it makes sense.
  6. It just keeps getting better! You're not a real celebrity these days unless there's a sex tape of you floating around, are you? From www.entertainment.iafrica.com : I bet half of you are googling this right now in an attepmt to find the tape online. Stop denying it!
  7. Okay, so I guess we all know about how Paul Simon ripped off all of those African musicians that were on the Graceland album, and was later forced to go back and retroactively give them songwriting credits and roylaties. It turns out that he also ripped off Los Lobos in the same way on the same album, Graceland. At least, that's the story according to Los Lobos' Steve Berlin, in this story from jambase. It doesn't seem like he would be making this up. I always thought that Paul Simon was an over-rated twunt who had lucked out with a few good songs - now it makes me wonder if maybe even more of those few good songs weren't also ripped off from other artists.
  8. And I thought that Stoned Phillips only had to worry about moles falling off... now it turns out that she has a beak instead of lips and teeth!
  9. What, you mean gay men can't turn straight through the power of prayer? Blasphemy!
  10. Maybe they can both take lessons from Large Marge.
  11. Hooray for Birdy! And for birds in general, too. Not pigeons, though. They're pretty disgusting.
  12. Because it's a current event involving horrible, horrible, shallow celebrities, that's why. Why did you open a thread about a topic that you have no interest in, and then complain about it?
  13. Oh, c'mon... you *do* care, and you know it. Like we couldn't see this one coming! From www.thestar.com :
  14. One day, when I'm bored, I'll have to compose a lengthy post about the time that I went on an intensive tour of a slaughterhouse/meat packing factory as part of a job that I used to have. It was interesting, but I'm certainly not in a hurry to go back and do it again.
  15. Gene Clark, Flying High A two-disc anthology of the music of one of the founders of The Byrds, concentrating almost entirely on his solo material (I think there are only two or three Byrds songs on there). If you like Gram Parsons, Gordon Lightfoot or Bob Dylan, you'll probably enjoy this. I prefer disc one, but there's nothing wrong with disc two, either.
  16. I'm about as non-religious as you can get, but my family is pretty Catholic and I attended Catholic school growing up; as a result, most of the people that I have known for a long time also some from Catholic families... so, I have been to a lot of funerals in the Catholic Church. The one song that always chokes me up - even just thinking about it - is the hymn "Be Not Afraid", because I have heard it at just about every funeral I have ever attended. The other one that always gets me is "Taps" (or is it called "Last Post"?). When I was in grade six or so, my great-grandfather died, and as a veteran of *both* World Wars, he was given a full military funeral, complete with 21-gun salute, bagpipes, the ceremonial flag-folding, and playing that tune on trumpet or bugle or whatever it is. Those moments of that song are etched into my brain more sharply than a lot of other memories are.
  17. And, the official results are in: 1. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 2. Winterlong 3. Down By The River 4. Wonderin' 5. Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown 6. Cowgirl In The Sand As mentioned above, due out on 14 November.
  18. I'm still here. I live in Daechi-dong, which (as you probably know) is in Gangnam-gu, south of the Han River.
