    Arcade Fire?

I know nothing about Arcade Fire and have to do an interview. Tell me about them please!! What do they sound like? How big are they? Notable shows you've seen? Is there like a 'main' person in the band?

  4. I missed the presale due to a friends dirty dishes. I'm gonna try for some $50 seats tomorrow, and I'm gonna do it drunk.
  5. I thought it was pretty darn good. The rhythm section is deadly solid. It's very prog-rockish, in an instrumental, old-Rush sort of way but they occasionally bring out the funk too..
  6. Just got my Ticketbastard gift certificate. Man, that feel sgood.
  7. You have internet at the restaurant? Cool.

Metallica is touring in support of their tenth studio album, Death Magnetic, which was released globally in the fall. News about the album and tour has been flowing out of Metallica’s camp via the band’s official website (www.metallica.com) and a new site, missionmetallica.com, which offers users a unique, ground-breaking look-in on the making of the album with producer Rick Rubin via a treasure trove of exclusive content. Death Magnetic is Metallica’s first studio album since 2003’s multi-platinum St. Anger, which hit No. 1 in 30 countries and has sold nearly six million copies worldwide. The album’s lead single, "The Day That Never Comes", was an instant hit at Canadian Radio, rising to the Top 10 in one week. Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 100 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have garnered numerous awards and accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. In addition, their 1991 album, Metallica, which has sold 15 million copies in the United States, has been awarded the prestigious "Diamond Award" from the Recording Industry Association of America, given to those albums with U.S. sales of 10 million copies or more. http://www2.scotiabankplace.com/eng/events/redirect.cfm?sectionID=sbpCapTicksEventInfo.cfm&eventID=484

    Bluesfest...

I was just mentioning the Paul Simon rumour to phorbesie this morning. That would be awesome, but as she pointed out, it would be a lawnchair fiesta. As I pointed out on this good rumour page, the fact that Michael Jerome Browne is playing Ottawa Folkfest sort of eliminates him from Bluesfest, doesn't it? http://consequenceofsound.net/festival-outlook/ottawa-bluesfest/

I might actually go to this for the first time. I'm really only interested in the Beasties though.
  13. This is from the entertainment section of CBC news: Leafs sign son of Slap Shot star The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Tuesday they've signed free agent centre Christian Hanson, whose father starred as one of the iconic Hanson brothers in the classic film Slap Shot. "We are excited to have Christian signed to a contract, and look forward to seeing him play for our organization," Leafs GM Brian Burke, who is a friend of Dave Hanson's, said in a statement. "He is a very intelligent hockey player who has good size and a solid scoring touch around the net." Financial terms of Hanson's two-year entry-level deal weren't disclosed. Hanson, 23, recently finished his fourth season at the University of Notre Dame. The six-foot-four, 228-pound native of Venetia, Penn., recorded 31 points (16 goals) and 28 penalty minutes in 31 games this season for the Fighting Irish, who finished the regular season ranked second in the NCAA but were bounced from the playoffs last Saturday by underdog Bemidji State University. Dave Hanson played Jack Hanson in 1977's Slap Shot, the beloved Paul Newman vehicle about a floundering minor-league hockey team that turns to on-ice violence to attract fans. http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2009/03/31/sp-leafs-hanson.html
  14. Maybe I'll check it out when I go to Montreal for The Hip.
  15. (Montreal Museum of Fine Arts) Yoko Ono returned to Montreal on Tuesday to unveil an art exhibit celebrating the week 40 years ago she famously stayed in bed with her husband John Lennon in a hotel room high above downtown Montreal and sang about peace. Ono was in the city for the anniversary of the 1969 bed-in, which is being marked by an exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, titled Imagine: The Peace Ballad of John & Yoko. The exhibit opens Thursday. "Montreal means very much for me because it was a place where John and I created a very important statement," the 76-year-old artist told reporters at the museum on Tuesday. "We didn't think it was going to be very important at the time.… John kept on doing the work until he passed away. I am still doing it." John Lennon and Yoko Ono checked into Montreal's Queen Elizabeth Hotel at midnight on May 26, 1969. They settled into the corner suite rooms 1738,1740 and 1742 and over the following days spoke and sang about peace with visiting guests. The end of the bed-in was capped by a spontaneous recording of Give Peace a Chance. The exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, which runs until June 21, features more than 100 works of art, many from Ono's private collection. They include drawings, unpublished photographs, videos and artworks tracing the couple's history from their meeting in 1966 to the bed-in three years later. The show also examines the legacy of anthemic songs such as as 1971's Imagine, which visitors will be able to play on a white piano. Visitors will also be able to write down their wishes and tie them to a "wish tree," stamp the words "imagine peace" on maps of the world, and read the works of some Nobel Peace Prize winners in a small library. Ono said the exhibit renews their message of universal peace, a message that is still important today. "I think of this world as people who want peace and people who want to solve problems with violence and war. I think by now, 99 per cent of the world's people very much are for world peace," said Ono. "There are so many of us, we are going to win." The exhibit is free to the public. Ono said the gesture is an important one, given the message. "Peace is for everybody. It isn't something that you have to sell," said Ono. http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2009/03/31/mtl-yoko-ono-exhibit-0331.html
