  1. I feel its my duty to report how shitty the DJ Czech show was in Seoul on Saturday night. There was huge promo for this show among the waygookin (foreigner) crowd and most got in for free, which is cool. But I had such high hopes for some break beats and funk and funky break beats. He didn't play much of the above but instead a crappy brew of house and quasi trance; in other words, more of the same for Seoul. I wish he'd of stuck to what he is good at. I get the feeling that the promoters meet the touring dj and tell him "Oh Seoul is all about house and psy-trance" and then the dj plays to that.. All the time. It happened with DJ Shadow and others who have visited here as well. I talked this show up quite a bit and the whole crew I came with was let down. Czech blew it. That is all.
  2. happy birthday brian.. hey, i live in seoul again. let's try to meet up ya? and... my b-day gift to you. upcoming shows of interest in seoul: 3/10 - Chick Corea 3/17 - Mono & World's End Girlfriend 3/30 - The Slackers 3/31 - The Slackers April ?? - NoFX
  3. I didn't recieve mine.. But that was from last year's exchange and it was TonBerry, who hasn't logged on in something like a year.
  4. You know I'd be geeking out to this one if I were still around!
  5. AD, Zunior sells The Prince Brothers.. Did ya check that out yet?
  6. High Plains Drifter has been known to cover a Supergenerous tune or two! Well maybe just one. They've got another album in the works, maybe coming out this year? Can'O wrote a good review of the night sometime last year when Cyro sat in for a whole show at a Monday night Sisters show at the Orbit.

    30's the new 20

I'm not sure Brad, but I do know for a fact that 55 is the new 35. (and that one is no joke!) I'm not sure how that factors into the equation.

    30's the new 20

I heard 40 is the new 50.. Sorry to break it to ya guys!
  9. Harry Manx always seems to have pretty random (to me) Quebec destinations on his tour schedule. Fun to look at. I'd go find the dates and cut and paste but I'm on a Mac right now and it would take too long to figure out how to do everything, lol.
  10. Damn I wish I could make it to see Hot Toddy at least once!! Every time they come west of Quebec I'm away. I'm always surprised by the lack of buzz around here about Hot Toddy, especially among those with rootsy folk inclinations. Have fun Jay!
  11. Briguy's right, I'm back in Korea now! Otherwise I'd be there for sure. This is the same house that did a BA Johnston house show about 2 weeks ago.. Its's BA's brother's house. Did anyone make it out to that?

    J. Dilla !!!@!%!!

I don't really know his stuff but I do know that him and Madlib did a project together called JayLib. Some folks I know say its good.
  14. Did they have the new album for sale? Was it packed? Any other observations?
  15. Nice!! Willie P is a legend and he lives full time in Peterborough. Check this out! I think he plays in Fred Eaglesmith's band most the time too these days. "Weeping Snow" is about as close as you can get to classic Canadian bluegrass.
  16. I think Brad might've been the only taper. (??)
  17. The furthest east that it goes is to Vladivostok (sp). It would be an amazing journey!! I've been thinking about doing it myself. I've got a really good book on it called The Trans Siberian Handbook.. Check it out. You have to be well organized to do this trip, cuz of strict visa regulations in Russia and thereabouts. Basically you have to have your itinerary organized and settled well before you leave and all your paper work in order. Here's the definitive site to see: http://www.seat61.com/Trans-Siberian.htm
  18. Sedan Delivery is a good name for a Neil cover band.. If its not a Neil cover band you need a new name! I like The Others Disagree... Hmm. The creative juices are certainly NOT flowing for me right now. hung.
  19. Every time I see 'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart' I feel bad for him for about a week afterwards.. Poor guy. Was it for the better, musically, you think? I'm not familiar enough with Wilco's sound to say myself.
  20. Yup! I worked on his pool out in Omeemee a few times. Usually he wasn't home.. We'd always have to go into the basement to get to the pump and filter. I remember the first time going into that basement... All sorts of old hockey sticks and fishing rods and stuff like that all over the place. I was just thinking "send me a sign Neil!!!" I wasn't snooping but I did see an deck of old dusty cassette tapes; blanks that were labeled in faded writing with all Neil's album titles. I dunno if Neil wrote them or who. But my imagination was running WILD! I met Scott only once. Neil looks a lot like him. I introduced myself and he extended his hand and said "Scott Young." He was cool and collected and hanging out with his dog.
  21. I was a pool boy for 4 summers in a row. Cougars and lemonade.
  22. The show is sold out.. GRRRR. Figures. I'm gonna be in Guelph though anyway, so I'll try to weasle my way in.
  23. "Shortly after Brian's appearance on the "30th Anniversary Concert" stage in 2004' date=' drummer Glen "Archie" Gamble departed to tour with The Joys and Brian returned to the Helix drum throne." and according to my buddy, was then snatched up by Saga's manager and whisked away to europe. Appaerently his innitial return to Helix, according to my buddy, was magical. This is why it burned so bad when Saga stole him away again. I pretty much consider my self a Helix afficianado right about now. [/quote'] Helix's drummer during their glory years was Greg 'Fritz' Heinz, and he was the fuckin man. Once Paul Hackman (guitarist) died in a car crash along the TransCanada in BC, that signalled the end of Helix in many ways, as the core of the band took off after another year or so. Fritz moved to Florida at that point. Brent Doerner (Brian's brother) was a core member over the years though. I think he was the rhythm guitarist. Fuck I love Helix! We were cranking them in the car Friday night as we pulled in to Ottawa. edit: I love how fuckin isn't censored.
  24. In their hometown at that. Yeah I really want to make it out for this! I'll be kicking myself if I don't.
