Perry’s studio innovations have influenced not only reggae, but also rock, punk, pop and dance music. Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 Wednesday, July 2, 9pm Seun Kuti started his career as a backup singer in Egypt 80, the band fronted by Fela, the Afrobeat king, who had presided over Lagos’s popular music scene since the early ‘70’s. Since Fela’s death in ’97, Kuti has led the band his father forged into one of Africa’s most legendary ensembles. Orchestra Baobab Thursday, July 3, 9pm This African iconic band have come through nearly four decades of dramas and disruptions with their classic ‘70’s line-up largely intact and their uniquely diverse cocktail of styles and influences sounding as fresh as ever.
