  1. Hey, my buddy bought tickets for himself and his wife and attended - that's pretty open minded! At least Bob Marley had guitar, bass, and drums accompanying his "rapping".
  2. Here's a further e-mail from my buddy: "What were the Reggae-fest guys were thinking? .... they were definitely thinking really big, with no consideration for the "what if's". As a white guy from the suburbs, if someone holds an event called reggae-fest, with a stylized Bob Marley as a logo, I got certain expectations. Let's say a Black Guy rapping with a Jamaican accent ain't it. Anyway it looked mighty lonely in the Heineken VIP Section ($200 Weekend pass!)."
  3. We've come a long way from the days of trading cassette tapes! Thanks Rob.
  4. I was out of town but I wouldn't have gone anyway. But here's what a friend of mine e-mailed me about it: "We went to the Reggaefest on Saturday. Ohhhh man did it ever suck. Turnout was really low. I think the Volunteers outnumbered the Audience. Musically, it sure wasn't Reggae. They had a DJ booth & then a whole bunch of different rappers. I didn't see a musical instrument on stage the entire day. We left around 8pm. Apparently one the headliners didn't show & the other one left after 20 minutes. Not good. I rode by on Sunday: they had real bands, but crowds were still ultra-sparse. The event headliner, Shaggy played for 40 minutes. (day pass was $65). Not sure what happened - the festival was geared for big things, but folks never came. Apparently last year was a big success. Wondering if it was same format, everyone came. Hated it. Gave it a big miss this year."
  5. Ha Ha! You beat me to it Davey! Rogers has been on my sh!tlist for years, for not honoring a promised cell phone discount. I stopped cheering for the Jays, and I don't even read MacLean's magazine.
  6. Yeah, they're just on vacation. It'll be back at the regular time soon.
  7. Blue Coupe rolled into town to play at the Elmdale House Tavern in Ottawa's old west end. The streets surrounding the tavern have been torn up all summer, the area looks like a bit of a war zone. How long does it take to pave a road? Blue Coupe comprises Joe Bouchard (former bassist for Blue Oyster Cult), his brother Albert (drummer), and Dennis Dunaway (bass player for Alice Cooper's original band). Dennis co-wrote a majority of Alice Cooper's early hits. Joe doesn't play the bass much anymore, he's the lead guitarist for Blue Coupe. Guesting on this mini-tour in Ontario is Gord Lewis, who played guitar with legendary Canadian punk band Teenage head. It's difficult to get people out in this sleepy government city, especially on a Sunday night. In addition, the last night of the folk music festival, taking place on a beach, occurred the same night. I was worried the boys would be turned off by the low turnout, but Joe, Albert, Dennis, and Gord did not disappoint. A very loud and energetic performance consisting of Alice Cooper, BÖC, and Teenage Head classics. Joe handled almost all of the lead vocal duties and I was very impressed with his lead guitar showmanship! Not to be outdone, Albert, playing for his first time ever in Ottawa, was amazing on the drums and Dennis played incredible bass. The band was very tight and well-rehearsed. Didn't write down the setlist, but highlights for me were "Cities on Flame", "Eighteen", "Dark Boat" (a story that takes place in Gananoque), "Tattoo Vampire", "Be My Lover", "Under My Wheels", " Black Ju Ju", "School's Out", "The Red and The Black", "Godzilla" and the Teenage Head classic "Let's Shake". A five-star rating from me!
  8. I've paraded in front of a business with a large placard denouncing their lousy service. That gets results, I tells ya! What was the name of the gelato shop?
  9. In a word, it was awesome. I'm working on a review which I will post later today over in the show review forum - forum #38
  10. Most of you probably don't know who these people are, but last night I met Joe Bouchard, Albert Bouchard, and Dennis Dunaway. We tend to view rock stars as "larger-than-life", but when you meet them they're just regular folks, and usually shorter than I thought.
  11. me too! that's the U.S. thanksgiving weekend, so it'll be extra special.
  12. In my mind, I'm already there! Looking forward to seeing y'all.
  13. Ha Ha Ha! These are hilarious! good work people!
  14. You should try posting over in Rich Stadium! Have a great weekend everyone! I'm outta here for a week of vacation. Keep your eye on the "Show Reviews" forum.
  15. Wow. That's awful Basher. Sounds like you were set up. This is just another one of the many reasons I will never own an iPhone.
  16. You could have just opened the window and screen and left the room.
  17. The show review section of jambands.ca is kind of buried, so here is the link a show review that I just posted. Enjoy!
  18. Traveled to Montreal last night to see a four-band prog-rock extravaganza at Centre Bell: Scale The Summit Big Elf Zappa Plays Zappa Dream Theater The action got underway at about 6pm. Unfortunately we got there a bit late and and took our seats just as "Scale the Summit" was playing the end of their last tune. What I heard (30 seconds or so) sounded good! I was pleasantly surprised by Big Elf. A real throwback to 70s era prog rock. The singer played two vintage keyboards at the same time. Very Uriah Heep-ish! Thoroughly enjoyed ZPZ. Highlights were "Apostrophe", "Inca Roads", "My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama" and "Montana". The six-piece band of very talented musicians played Frank's music perfectly. ZPZ was worth the price of admission alone. During ZPZ, one of my friends disappeared for a while. He came back a bit later, and said there were 3 unoccupied seats down in front. We moved down to these seats in the 5th row and were able to stay there for the rest of the night! Dream Theater was awesome as usual. I can't come up with a complete DT setlist - I don't know all the song titles, even though I do have all of their CDs. Here's what I remember: A Nightmare to Remember A Rite of Passage Prophets of War The Count of Tuscany The Dance of Eternity As I Am Metropolis Part 1 I've seen DT 4 times now, this was the first time they did not play "Pull Me Under" (their greatest hit). I thought there would be more people at this concert, but the Montreal crowd made up for the empty seats with incredible enthusiasm. I've always contended that Montreal is the best place to see a concert, and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater's drummer) said as much at the end of the show! This show hits Toronto on Friday night. If you're not going away for Phish concerts, and you're a big prog fan, I implore you to attend!
  19. I knew this was a scam right from day 1. That's why I didn't bother voting.
  20. Wow. With all of the offers for discount/better tickets, I don't even know why I bothered with the LiveNation frenzy when they first went on sale. Lesson learned.
  21. I'm probably going to get laughed at, and I don't care - my favourite "new" band at the moment is Chickenfoot.
  22. It's for reasons like that why I only listen to CKCU and the TEAM 1200. They don't play a whole lotta AC/DC!
  23. So who's going tonight? I'll be in sec. 302, row A. Hope to see y'all there!
