  1. from Wikipedia (so we know that it's true): he hasn't played with Steely Dan since 1974. I did not see that coming.
  2. These shows were just before I got into "the scene." I stumbled across the Franklin's Tower from 4/16 on a file sharing site a couple of years after the fact and knew instantly that it was something special (even though I could tell that the "Phish" label was incorrect). They remain in high rotation for me, and I can't imagine how much fun it would have been in person.
  3. Per CBC and the New York Times he won't be in character, which shouldn't come as a surprise. It will be interesting to see what kind of chops he has without that front.
  4. This one's been in high rotation for me for years.
  5. I was happy to see the headline, but a little less so after reading the fine print. Darren was always a highlight for me, although that's not said to take anything away from the other guys. Whether or not I get to a show, I'll be listening with interest.
  6. Happy birthday to BradM from Ottawa (recordings by whom can be found here). Aloha, Hart
  7. Yeah, same. I was perplexed when I saw the story on the CBC Ottawa page. My introduction to GWAR was via their cameo in Empire Records. I was very confused, and still didn't think they were a real band for a while after that. RIP
  8. Funnily enough, it wasn't TMZ.com, but a non-affiliated TMZ lookalike at the URL TMZ.today which "broke" the story. It doesn't look like it was ever mentioned on the "legit" TMZ.
  9. This won't be the year (as per the dates announced today), but Phish seems like at least a somewhat logical choice for a Bluesfest in the near future. They're typically in the general area in early-mid July, and as the Toronto show last year demonstrated it's not as though they would draw an influx of fans that would be problematic in its size. Hey, a guy can dream. On another note, what would be the rule on formal wear if Arcade Fire was booked? Like, would I still have to wear a suit if I was only going to see Tony D?
  10. For the record' date=' PleasureCraft fans are known as "Tugboats"[/quote']
  11. A buddy is selling his pair on a "best offer" basis. Fifth row at the NAC. Msg me for details.
  12. Such a bummer. I had no idea that he either wrote or directed National Lampoon's Vacation, Caddyshack and Groindhog Day. He'll always be Egon to me.
  13. Right, although there's a difference between a (seemingly) one-off acoustic fundraiser show and a full-blown reunion tour.
  14. Per some subtle (a picture of someone rising from a grave marked JSB) and not so subtle ("Where would you like to see JSB play this summer?") hints on their Facebook page, it sounds like the former anchors of the East Coast scene will be back at 'er. Good news, as far as I'm concerned.
  15. Jazzfest looks delicious, and I love that there is for sure a strong contingent of Phish fans taking angry exception to Christina Aguilera getting billing over them in that announcement.
  16. You're right. To keep the sports analogy going, some rebuilding years would be required. Those would be massive shoes to fill.
