  1. Agreed. If I recall correctly, the wording of the statement at the time was "OCMS has decided to part ways with Willie Watson," which sounds to me like he may have gotten the boot for one reason or another. Regardless, I'm happy to see him playing. I loved his harmonies in OCMS.
  2. Crazy how low the demand has been for most of this tour. Three-day Hamptons are less than a hundred bucks on StubHub, and pretty much everything other than Glens Falls and the Halloween run is relatively close to face. Even the NYE run has plenty of tickets under a hundred bucks for three of the four nights.
  3. Excellent choices, sir. I picked up Graceland earlier this week, and it never sounded so good.
  4. Yeah, the instant gratification was nice. Good luck with your search. Anybody have any advice on my wireless question?
  5. I've recently jumped into the game myself; I dug the old family stereo system out of my Mom's basement and - surprise, surprise - everything works great. I'm currently running a Dual 1258 turntable, Sherwood S-9180 CP receiver, and Zenith Allegro Speakers, with everything being about 30 or so years old. The setup may not be fancy, but it sounds beautiful, and really makes me realize what I've been missing by using computer speakers almost exclusively for the past few years. I do have one question: How would I go about adding a pair of wireless speakers into this equation? I'd like to keep the Zenith ones running in the living room, but would like to be able to listen on a smaller wireless pair when I'm in the kitchen. I'd like to have them both going at once, rather than an either/or situation. This can't be all that complicated, can it?
  6. Re: the release "event," I for one don't see the difference between waiting in line for a new iPhone and rushing a Wal-Mart store on Black Friday. Obedient consumerism at its finest.
  7. You know you've had a good summer of music when sitting on Mike Gordon's lap while Phil Lesh sang you lullabies around the camp fire isn't even in your top-five.
  8. Yeah, I was wondering that as well. No way it's a list of top-selling shows in North America this year.
  9. I know there are one or two around here (or have been in the past). Can't imagine how rough today would have been for you. Big vibes.
  10. Thanks for the tip, DB. Someone on Twitter made the same suggestion. I think I'll give them a call today.
  11. You understand my concept of geography very well. Also, anywhere to get my turntable worked on? It has a minor mechanical flaw (the barbs on the centre post don't automatically retract when they should) which I would like to get taken care of so long as it won't be stupid expensive.
  12. Pulled the old turntable (Dual 1258), amp (Sherwood S-9180 CP) and speakers (Zenith Allegro) out of my Mom's basement yesterday. Grabbed a couple of records at Value Village on the off-chance the neglected 30 year-old gear would work. Lo and behold, it all seems to be working perfectly. Pumped! Any recommendations for record stores in Ottawa? I live on Elgin, so Birdman and Compact in the Glebe are both pretty close to me.
  13. Yeah, I thought they were great. Quirky and old-timey, but certainly not a novelty act. Looking forward to seeing them again today. I was impressed wit The Sheepdogs. They've added a keys player and did some guitarmonizing. Nothing especially ground-breaking about them, but it's hard to argue with vintage rock and roll played well. Great beer-drinking music. But the highlight for me was the Avett Brothers. A high-energy mix of Appalachian folk, pop with integrity and hard-hitting guitar rock. Virtuosos they are not, but I thought it was a top-notch show.
  14. The going rate seems to be $25 - $30 on Kajiji. I didn't see anyone buying or selling at the gate last night. I'll look for you tonight.
  15. Good stuff from The Dusty Drifters and Emmylou Harris last night. Looking forward to the Avetts tonight, as well as the Carolina Chocolate Drops, who I know very little about but have heard great things. The Sheepdogs should be good music to sit back on the lawn and have a beer to. See you there, bitches.
  16. Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the nostalgia trip.
  17. That's Sunday, September 8. Aloha, Brad Holy. Shit. GREAT addition, Folk Fest. Lightfoot is hetty.
  18. City and Colour to replace Neil Young. At least we'll get some hetty Good Rev content.
  19. Self'd. Funny, because last night I shit on two separate buddies of mine for believing things that they read on a parody website.
  20. Anyone care to speculate on a replacement? Think we'll get a major name or a consolation prize? I see that Pearl Jam is available that night....(he said wishfully)
  21. Fred Penner played Folk on the Rocks in Yellowknife a couple of years ago and was an absolute hit. That said, what a laughable substitution.
  22. Realllllllllly? Hopefully this means that bygones are bygones. Would be great to see just one more Ontario run.
  23. Gotcha, and I agree. Accept no substitutes, unless someone really special can be arranged on short notice. I read the book just last month and it really stoked my fire for the OFF show. My heart really goes out to the organizers. This must be a real gut-punch after how excited so many people were for the festival. Still a great lineup, but Neil and the Horse were what had really put it over the top IMO.
