  1. Sweet. 'Twas a beauty of a show. Thanks, gents.
  2. Well, it's hard to argue that we're a culturally engaged, fun-loving city when people barrage the municipal government with complaints about a weekend folk festival.
  3. Ugh. Embarrassing. Further ammo for the "Ottawa is a sleepy government town" argument. I could hear most of this year's Bluesfest headliners with crystal clarity inside my house - which surprised me given that I don't love anywhere near the site - and my only complaint was that I wasn't there in person. If I could live with it for two weeks with three-month-old twins to take care of, then surely the killjoy wankers who griped about Folk Fest could have sucked it up for five days. I hope they pay their by-law fine in pennies.
  4. Yeah, not terribly surprising. End of an era, though. I have great memories of lining up there in high school for midnight releases.
  5. Was it ever. 75 minutes and the music stopped, what, four times? Loved that the whole thing was bookended by "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Those guys are clearly pros with no interest in phoning it in.
  6. Appreciated, but I'm heading out of town tomorrow. Regardless, I found a ticket for tonight at work. Looking forward to it!
  7. Songs New Rider listens to in the parking lot while waiting for friends, after getting kicked out of a concert: 1. Rattled by the Rush- Pavement 2. The Waiting - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers 3. Lonely Boy - Andrew Gold 4. There There - Radiohead 5. Wanna Be Startin Something - Michael Jackson 6. 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall - New Roots 7. Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John 8. Hip to be Square - Huey Lewis 9. Stolen Car - The Ox 10. Waiting on a Friend - The Rolling Stones
  8. The Kanter takeover is almost complete. PT must have laid an egg over this.
  9. Thanks for posting this, Jay. Having been an undergrad student out east during the JSB's early-00s heyday (my first show of theirs was a Fly Jimmy Swift show in '99), these guys were *our* band. I was sad to see the bottom drop out so quickly, and agree that had they gone harder stateside - and pushed "Drive By" as means to get exposure and pay the bills - things could have gone differently. Regardless, I have great memories associated with this band, and was glad to see their run end with a dignified punctuation.
  10. Anyone have an extra for the home opener?
  11. I love hearing people talk about this show, even though it kills me that Phish played my hometown before my time. The Congress Center was a weird place to see a rock and roll show.
  12. Any SPAC pavs (I know, I know) floating around? The wife and I are fixin' to take a break from the twins and head down for a show.
  13. Thanks, brahs. We found a nifty little spot in New Edinburgh, moving in on Monday.
  14. Swing and a miss, Davey Boy. But I still appreciate all that you are.
  15. Crud. We've actually looked at a couple of spots in your neck of the woods. Hey thanks! We have a boy named Drew and a girl named Muir. Good times. Paternity leave is the greatest thing ever.
  16. Whattup wooks. My wife and I (and our seven-week old twins!) are looking to rent some new digs. We'd prefer a house, but are open to an apartment/condo if it's big enough and the location is right. We need the usual adult amenities (laundry in the unit, off-street parking, privacy) but are willing to live in unconventional spaces. We are hoping to remain central (Glebe, Centretown, Old Ottawa South or even as far west as Westboro) and out of the suburbs, so we're not interested in Kanata, Orleans or the like. We've been looking pretty actively for a few weeks and haven't really found what we're looking for. Obviously I know all of the online channels (so you don't have to provide links to Craigslist or Kijiji, Brad, but thanks) but I thought I'd put in on here in case anyone had any specific leads. Thanks. Good talk.
  17. Apt613: aVibe fest delivers in its debut year Aloha' date=' Brad[/quote'] Great picture of "the Slowcoasters". Sounds like a beauty of a day.
  18. Reviews? Feedback? Tirades?
  19. The dates in the title and body don't sync up. Now I don't know what to believe.
  20. Black Squirrel Books is moving in next door, and will be getting a license.
  21. Bob Saget has just been added to the line up. Yes, him and no, really. #nothelping
