  1. This thread sent me tumbling down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. I had no idea that Starship and Jefferson Starship were separate, rival entities. I had always just thought that Starship emerged out of a dying Jefferson Starship. Not so, apparently.
  2. At least the record is included?
  3. When Umphrey's played the Big Summer Classic in Ottawa in 2005 they joked about having played Hamilton to an audience of "that guy over there and his buddy," or words to that effect.
  4. I quite enjoyed Hogs Back as a site. Part of me is disappointed to see it leaving. As for the move to Lansdowne, I'm glad to see more local / cultural content there, to offset the bland and generic feel of the dominant retail space. There may be some soul there, yet. Hard to argue with that.
  5. In that case: The Promised Land (Chuck Berry cover) They Love Each Other (Jerry Garcia song) Me and My Uncle (Judy Collins cover) Big River (Johnny Cash cover) Candyman Looks Like Rain (Bob Weir song) Ramble On Rose Lazy Lightning (Kingfish cover) Supplication (Kingfish cover) Might as Well (Jerry Garcia song) Set II Samson and Delilah (Blind Willie Johnson cover) Ship of Fools Good Lovin' (The Young Rascals cover) Sunrise Scarlet Begonias Fire on the Mountain Estimated Prophet St. Stephen Truckin' Around and Around (Chuck Berry cover) Encore: Terrapin Station https://archive.org/details/gd1977-11-02.aud.zimmerman.minches.81012.sbeok.flac16 Can't believe I beat BradM to the punch on this. Aloha, Hart
  6. This is my current favourite from the new record:
  7. Zing! Plenty to ponder in there, but any post that talks about "The Dead" playing stadiums at this point should be taken with a heavy dose of salt, as far as I'm concerned, unless by "stadiums" he meant amphitheatres.
  8. Nice one. Me, too. (Not that I will be at these shows or anything, but still.)
  9. http://youtu.be/5ULTq_-DScohttp://youtu.be/PCSW5lsX1VA
  10. I hear that some of you caught them in Vegas.
  11. Musical costume was a vintage Disney Hallowe'en sound effects album: http://youtu.be/1sBVIoWRb48
  12. Going to have to agree here. There is pretty strong evidence of him doing horrible, violent things to multiple women. Reva Seth, a lawyer and author, is the most recent woman to put her name to allegations: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/10/30/reva-seth-jian-ghomeshi-assault-abuse_n_6077454.html
  13. I was in the middle of a trial at the Elgin Street courthouse (almost literally a stone's throw from the war memorial) when a police officer interrupted to tell us that there had been a shooting, all on-duty officers were being deployed, and the building was on lockdown. So that was jarring. I just got home a few minutes ago (7:45 or so) and there are multiple road closures in my neighbourhood and a police car just drove slowly past my house, going the wrong way on a one-way. I live a few blocks from 24 Sussex, which explains that. Anyway, the impact on me had been minimal compared with first responders, etc., but what a sad and scary day in Ottawa.
  14. Del McCoury, Sam Bush, the Gibson Brothers, Amy Helm and a whack of other progressive and traditional grass acts in the Adirondack Mountains in the fall. Hellz yeah. Looking forward to this. http://www.whiteface.com/events/lake-placid-bluegrass-jam
  15. Pretty sure that he is more closely affiliated with Jon & Roy.
  16. Cool. Very cool. That said, I'm always hesitant to embrace anything "definitive" or "career-spanning" while the artist is still putting things out there. As soon as Dylan releases his next album, this will be a formerly-exhaustive collection containing *almost* all of his lyrics.
  17. This band is absolutely killing it right now. Their new album If Sorrows Swim (which cracked the Billboard 200 and debuted at #1 on the bluegrass charts) is quite strong, but their live shows are what matters and they are hitting home runs nightly. With Jeff Austin having left Yonder, I feel like GSMFBG is poised to take the title as reigning kings of jamgrass (non-Salmon category).
  18. The Blackwood Convention?
  19. All Esau ever wants to talk about is the Gourds.
  20. I booked my hotel on the way home from Cypress, n00bs.
