  7. ive never been able to get into Paul Weller's solo stuff all that much. for me, it was the frantic energy and youthful angst that made the Jam and the loungy soul that made Style Council. I love both bands. Ive never gotten much of either out of his solo stuff depite a feeling that I should be into it.

  11. hard time imagining what? that we have a PM who routinely ignores the will of the people, threatens those who oppose his mandate, blindly follows an american president in establishing our national foreign policy, dismisses charter rights, arrogantly governs in secrecy, destroys the environment ... oh the evil he could do if he had a majority ... dark days are relative.

  13. My understanding (based entirely on the spec article) is that there are three different developments: the hotel, the concert hall, and the parking garage. Im just talking about the concert hall, and I just cant see it getting off the ground. Sure, the HoB reference is simply that - a reference for the type of venue. But, buddy wouldn’t have the deep pockets associated with HoB - Live Nation - Clear Channel, so he’d have to finance it on his own and given his recent conviction and this particular market, who’s lining up checkbook in hand? And I doubt he has $15 to $20 million of his own. I sense its all wishful thinking, but I don’t know anything about it. On the “would this thing be cool if it ever came to be†note … yeah, it could be for a while, but the Hamilton market cannot sustain a profitable 2000-seat concert venue. Toronto could barely support this sort of a concert venue, so the Hammer doesn’t have a hope. I agree with MarcO that this place would just turn into a nightly drunken dance party and if that’s the case, why bother. If the article can be taken seriously, the city seems to be looking for the magic bullet, and is insane if it thinks this is it.
  14. hmmmmm, i've never been in a HoB that was an actual sit-down theatre, they have all just been big open bars, maybe with a railing/balcony. i just dont see how this plan is at all feasible, and wonder if it's a charade of some sort. the site is much smaller than I'd think it would need to be to have a facility this big. financing would be an enormous undertaking for a local developer. and i just can't see hecfi supporting it (and thus the city).
  15. hey, if mom's gonna ante up for the slots, i say go for it!
  16. i wish for this to be true, but there are just so many things about it that are a bit off.
