Todd, Dave & Gatch are doing an acoustic show at The Winchester Arms in Dundas as part of the weekend-long Busking festival. My best guess is that they'll play from 10-1am.

That was a FABULOUS show!! My first time seeing The Avetts and they did not dissapoint. Their energy is SUPER infectious. Their vocal ranges and harmonies were really impressive. Both brothers are multi-instrumentalists. I liked the cello player's vibe too. Great songs. I wish they had more of their discs available on hand, but was able to pick up one that I do not have. Can't wait to see them again! (don't know when though...wish they were on the All Good bill...) I thought the opening band was pretty good too. Jessica Leigh's voice was beautiful...very sedated though which I liked. I thought her guitar player was good too...some interesting tones and layers he was adding to the mix. My only real complaint is that after a while their songs started to all sound the same. I swear the song that they closed with they had already played. So as much as they were cool to catch a glimpse of, I was happy when they were finished...mostly due to my pent-up anticipation of the Avetts though. I didn't know what to expect in terms of turnout, but the place was packed! Didn't see too many skanks though.

Just noticed on Cornmeal's website that they are playing in Toronto at The Great Hall on Fri. July 16th with Tea Leaf Green. Sweetness. Now to somehow line up my cards right so that I actually get to go to this (esp. given All Good is the weekend before) Boy oh boy I love summer.

So...does this mean you're in?

I totally agree with your description of the Avetts and obviously SOAD would by no means be placed in that category...I just thought that when Serj is singing (and not screaming) there were some similarities in tone.

Just heard about these shows recently too...super choked about the timing though. Will be seeing them at All Good as well right around that time, which I'm super stoked about. But given the freedom I will be withdrawing from the bank in order to attend that festival the chances of me making it to the Toronto show are nil.

I've finally been getting acquainted with this band in anticipation of their upcoming show. In particular I have been listening to their latest album. Loving it. Esp. the timbre/tone of the vocals. With respect to that there is something unique but familiar about their sound...I have been trying to trace out in my mind who I think they sound like vocally...and have come up with some bizarre comparisons. Vocally System of a Down and Jethro Tull come to mind...never thought these three bands would be cited in the same sentence...but... Am I crazy or does anyone else hear some similarities in tone despite the obvious musical differences?
