  1. Hey all. Since being in Ottawa I haven't been to any beaches or lakes at all. Being from the east I miss my salty sandy playground, and I don't think anything will compare around here, but if any of you have suggestions of clean, fairly secluded places to go swimming around Ottawa, no more than an hour or so away, it would be much appreciated. Matt and I are heading to spend a day on the water tomorrow if anyone would like to join us. Thanks and happy sunshiny weekend to you Steph
  2. Matt and I ate at Northern Han tonight, realizing it's right across the street from our place. I'm glad you people suggested it because it's by far the freshest Chinese food I've ever had. It was tasty and everything wasn't soaked in oil or grease, and you can tell wasn't sitting there all day long. Thumbs up! Keep the suggestions coming. Steph
  3. Happy Birthday you wonderful lady!
  4. I second that! They got me so ready for that weekend, and having Victor come out was a sure fire treat. I love these guys and just can't see them enough. Steph
  5. I know every time I'm in Montreal I try and eat at Croissant de la Lune. It's on St.Denis near rue University. It's more of a breakfast place and kind of small, but has a really old authentic french feel. They make crepes right there in front of you and the smell is just irresistible. Not overly priced either... As you know we'll be there this weekend too Brad, maybe we can do dinner at some point. You thinking of going to Tam Tams on Sunday? See you there! Steph
  6. I work across from Mec so I ran over and tried them on too. I must say, not worth the $75 they were asking. Sure it's Vibram, but it was thin and that runs at like $30 tops. They just added some neoprine which costs next to nothing and put some toes in. Kind of reminds me of those cheap water shoes you wear as a kid.... Definitely a water sport kind of shoe. Steph
  7. So cool! I'm definitely going to go try a pair on today.
  8. This Piers guy actually doesn't sound that bad. Doesn't surprise me he's opening for Ben Harper.
  9. Yeah sucks bad there's no Ottawa date. Matt and I are thinking of heading to the Montreal show. Maybe we can hook up a carpool, we we're just going to rent a car for the day, but are willing to pitch if someone else has a ride. I don't want to miss these guy's coming out east! Steph
  10. Grassroot Deviation rocks too! I seen them at least a dozen times when I lived out west and their just so wholesome and groovy. Definitely suggest giving them a ear and a nice warm east coast welcome, it's their first eastern tour. I'll probably go check out their Montreal show. Cheers Steph
  11. Yes definite good work guys, getting the word out there. Yeah and regarding that picture Matt posted of the guy with the lawnchair and his feet reclined up, there was also his wife with a foot rest, and about 8 other people spread around them in their massive chairs. I don't know if any of you were at Buddy Guy last night but it was pretty damn packed for the river stage. At one point there were about 7 people in wheelchairs that wanted to get by through the crowd, and this mass of people sitting in lawchairs would barely move to let them through. That made me so upset. I finally folded up someones huge lawchair and umbrella that was just sitting there unused and I swear 6 or 7 people made it up closer just from that very spot. We should start rebelling and doing that. If you clearly see an unused lawn chair and it's owner may very well be near by or not, just fold it up and say "Well your clearly not using it and there are a large amount of people who want to see this show too. Set it aside until you need it." Just my two cents. Steph
  12. Just came across this, I had no idea. July 31st, and August 1st Haynes with ABB will be playing at the Casino Rama, only an hour or so from Toronto. Between that and the Mule playing in Fredericton, I don't know what to do with myself..... http://mule.net/tour/warren.php
  13. Congratulations guys! You both look absolutely beautiful, I wish you a lifetime of happiness, love and great memories. Steph
  14. Happy Birthday Mike! Good partying and jamming with you last summer. Come to Ottawa more often. Steph
  15. It can't be the season's end...isn't that pretty short? Totally weird and unexpected ending....guess we'll have to wait until next week to see.
  16. I'll be working during some of it on Saturday during the day but may catch some evening shows. Sunday looks good, I'm off and can catch the John Henry's. Come by and say Hi Saturday, I work at the Expedition Shoppe, across from MEC, there from 9-6 tommorow. Have fun, weather looks like it's going to be a beauty. Steph
  17. I'm about 90% sure I'll be there. What time do you think Mr.S.S. will start? Kinda bummed their opening up, hopefully they still play a long set, I've been aching to see them for a while. Zobo Town looks fun too, haven't heard them yet.
  18. Ohh sounds like so much fun! Scavenger hunts are good with kids. Have an area outside or in the woods and get them to find pine cones, or different shaped leaves or something. Also it's fun to iron the leaves in between waxed paper to make collages and stuff. That's more of a fall thing because the leaves are all bright different colors. Another fun thing I loved doing as a kid (sorry this is more of a spring thing). But you take a small stick and go poke the sap bubbles on maple tree trunks, then dip the stick in a puddle of water and watch beautiful rainbow oil like shapes appear. Collecting rocks and painting them is fun too.
  19. In honor of it being so bloody hot these past two days, I figured I'd start a thread dedicated to your favorite foods to cool down with. Meals, deserts, drinks, easy oven-less suggestions too, or places to eat out.....whatever. Share em all.
  20. I think it's a great move. One more SCI show for all those Cheese fans who are dreading to see them go, and at a great festival at that. Trey will be back, he needs this time, and I'm hoping will learn wisely from it.
  21. Happy Birthday Afro! So close to mine and so many people it seems. Us May kids rock! Can't wait to see your bobbyness at shows again. Have a beautiful day! Steph
  22. WOW, "Conditions in the shipyards are dangerous. Many workers are barefoot and without gloves, carefully avoiding razor-sharp metal, hot steel, and pollutants." Unbelievable.
  23. Wow, that's some amazing stats/ artwork, thanks for posting that Kev. It makes me recall this movie I have yet to see called Manufactured Landscapes. I'm now on a search to find/see it. Anyone seen it? http://www.mercuryfilms.ca/burtynsky_intro_06.html
