  8. Hey, I'm joining Mike for his weekly show at Humphreys (683 Bank St.) tonight. I'm not exactly sure what we'll be doing but it will be improv based, it will have some live looping and it will certainly be un rehearsed! Mike is a killer player and I'm excited to make some music with him. The show will be from 9:30-12:30 cheers, Dave
  9. congratulations guys!! You're beautiful. what a party!
  10. I thought this thread said something about free cocaine and titties. woops. sorry wrong thread. Just listened to a couple of tunes. Sounds great Dave!
  11. Is everyone forgetting the real star of the show?? McKenzie Mcbride This is Ottawa's Joyslam, only creepier. much much creepier. And more difficult to listen to. check her out!
  12. I'll be there! Unfortunately I'll probably miss atpa but I'll be there for Acres. Their new cd is great. Pick one up tonight, you won't be disappointed!
  13. I have to say I'm schocked that someone who is obviously sick is put into a regular jail instead of some sort of hospital. I guess I shouldn't be so suprised. get well Luke.
  14. Check this guy out. Wayne is currently my hero. He's playing at the Montreal Jazz fest July 5th(solo) July 6(duo) and July 7th (trio)
  15. You know what I've noticed here. It seems like some people are just itching to jump all over someone. Its too bad because the vide around here is definitely more of a go the fuck away thing than anything else.
  16. Its incredible that this movie hasn't been made already. I mean there's no shortage of comic material to put together.
  17. I'm thinking of the music we go see in clubs, halls and theatres. I don't think its fair to compare your average rock bands to mozart. That being said, if you think Mozarts music (and other classical composers) was static written to be played one way then you are very very wrong. Way back when, classical music had plenty of improvisation in it before it was turned into the dried prune it is today. The composers would put huge open sections into their compositions.
  18. Truthfully I hardly listen to anything that would be considered "jammy" Bt when it comes to going to see live music I feel like I need to see improv or I have no interest. I'm not saying it has to be all out improv or constant, but I feel like that when a group goes out on the edge even for a couple of minutes, that's what its all about.
  19. First off, I had a blast sitting in with Diesel Dog and Caution Jam. I've been dying to play some electric guitar lately. I had to get that new guitar and amp into a live setting!! As far as I’m concerned there is no better guys than Mavericks as far as giving a shit about what is happening in their bar. They try hard and you’ll never meet people that nice in their business. The lack of turnout was disappointing for the bands. Diesel Dog is out on the road supporting a new cd (which I think is great, listening to it right now actually) and that's probably the last we'll see of Mark with Caution Jam (I actually always figured it was his band and 12 years in is certainly significant. End of an era) So for someone who is interested there is certainly reason to go and see these bands. What I find disappointing really has nothing to do with either the bands/promotion/or fans. It’s just that it definitely felt like a nail in the coffin of what is left of the Ottawa jam scene. There’s something very very different about going to a jam show (at least there was) and that’s how much fun everyone is having. 2000 –2004 in Ottawa you could go to ANY jam show and people would be there having a good time. I remember that the bands that did Dead tunes like TMNS or Caution Jam would have this crowd that only did Dead related shows…with maybe the odd other band. What happened to these people? The thing is that the jam shows were always a absolute blast and it was because people had a good time. It seems like that is lost on a lot of the other segments of the show going public. I went to the wooden stars a couple of weeks ago and the crowd was like an angry dental association convention. I also realized after a couple of years of not being interested in anything jammy that if I’m seeing a live show I need to see improvisation or I’d rather stay home. I’ll miss what we used to have in this city because it was fucking great while it lasted. Maybe we all just had too much fun. I hope no one takes offense to anything I’ve said because I understand that life changes, and so do tastes. More so than anything, this caused me to reflect on what was. Great memories.
