  1. I wish your house was on sale for that price and in my neighbourhood in Riverdale... although it would go for 5 times that in reality. I'm currently looking at an 800 sq. foot loft for $250 grand. Good luck Mike and Sharon!
  2. This is misleading story since we can't get Fuse TV in Canada. "Nationally" only means the US, unless someone can tell me where this channel is located on the Rogers digital service. However, I bet there'll be some footage on Fuse's website.
  3. I wish I could make it this weekend! Happy 4-----------------0th to my old J.R. Henderson Public School '82, Frontenac Secondary School '87 and fellow Henderson Place, Kingston Township pal!
  4. Sell that house in Hull already!
  5. I watched #2 recently and it certainly had some good moments, especially the beginning, but that fucking kid ruined virtually every scene he was in. #3 was pretty good though, at least from what I can remember; I've only seen it once, and that was when it first hit the threatres. I have no blind loyalty towards this series so I hope the new film is good.
  6. ... 76% rotten so far (most critics haven't chimed in yet), which is better than I expected given some bad early insider buzz. FYI, Rotten Tomatoes (an excellent and influential site) combines the averages of print/TV critics and websites reviewers to get an overall average - the higher the rotten tomato, the better the film is. This is pretty heartening news. I hope it's better than the second film: Here's the link with other links to all the reviews that have been submitted so far.
  7. I hope for everyone's sake the show in MTL is general admission. You can't have fucking chairs for one of the best live bands around in an amazing looking venue.
  8. Marsden's death wasn't a shocker given his tremendous smoking habit and his weight and age. I still miss the old codger though. I didn't really like Jim "Shaky" Hunt but his dislike of McCown made for a good show. As for Steinhart, I see on the Fan's website that donations can be made out to the Canadian Diabetes Association. If Steinhart had diabetes, then his sad passing is more than likely related.
  9. No way! d_jango is a happy boy today. That is so awesome. What is wrong with the timing? (I guess that is my answer to the QotD then. Iggy!) I work shifts plus I'm going to NYC to see the Yanks vs Red Sox.
  10. I saw this acclaimed Joe Strummer film last night (it's out on DVD too) at The Fox rep theatre in Toronto's Beaches district. Wow, what a great document of a complex music and social visionary. I feel Joe Strummer along with Bob Marley were two of the most important (and best) songwriters/artists of the latter part of the 20th century. The Future Is Unwritten was directed by Julien Temple (The Great Rock & Roll Swindle) and most of the film was narrated by Joe himself; Temple uses audio clips and intersperses them throughout along with great concert footage, interviews (both new and archival) with bandmates Mick Jones, Topper Headon, Terry Chimes, Paul Simenon and some scenes with peers and fans like filmmaker Jim Jarmush, country maverick Joe Ely, old girfriends, his wife, members of his first band The 101'ers, Pirates of the Caribbean garbed Johnny Depp and of course: The Great Bono. It's not a typical documentary, but that's hardly surprising given Temple's well-earned reputation. Along with two hours of looking at bad teeth, another disarming thing about the film is that Temple decided not to put names to faces, so we are kept guessing who the hell some of these people are, although I certainly recognized many, including a bloated Steve Jones. However, I think Strummer's friend and admirer Billy Bragg or even rock "spokesman" Pete Townshend and perhaps Markey or Tommy Ramone should have been in the film to offer their different perspectives. Still, I walked out of the theatre with even more admiration for Joe, but at the same time, Temple accurately paints Strummer as tortured and often mean and selfish, yet as he got older, he became a truly humble soul that passionately believed in the potential salvation of humanity. This video of " " done by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros basically sums up the essence of Strummer (and I've cried several times because of Joe's fucking emotional speech at the beginning). 11. August 6' date=' Massey Hall [/quote'] Goddamit! The timing is not good to say the least.
  12. Tom Waits Bruce Springsteen Iggy & The Stooges The Raconteurs (seeing them in a few weeks) The Hold Steady The Black Keys (probably see them in August) The Flaming Lips James Blood Ulmer Junior Brown The Frames The Dave Rahmer Experience Led Zeppelin
  13. I liked his segment on The Fan. I'm shocked and saddened.

    The Cure

Well, Robert Smith is extremely talented and I take their music seriously... but I respectfully hate them with a passion.
  15. Hey, I highly recommend that you verse yourself into some Frames stuff. A good intro is their excellent live album (full of sing-a-long anthems) Set List. Also, Glen and Marketa do a bunch of Frames tunes in concert. The Frames recent album The Cost is another good album to pick up. It contains their version of "Falling Slowly" and "When My Minds Made Up".
  16. At dinner or the concert? Hopefully very little at dinner, but Glen likes to tell tales and he's charmingly good at it.
  17. LJ is infamous for dining and dashing.
  18. In. Make the reservation Jaimoe' date=' Bouche will pick up the bill. [/quote'] No need for reservations. If the place is booked, there's around 80 other restaurants to choose from... and where Mike can pick-up the bill.
  19. Nope, there's nothing wrong with moving towards hybrids etc... If I ever get another car, it will be a hybrid or an electric car - although producing certain forms of electricity is environmentally destructive too. Too late? Yes, I think it's too late, but I gotta try to live too.
  20. And Robert Johnson has two gravesites just outside of Clarksdale, and finding them is an adventure... and unsettling.
  21. Oh yeah, if you want an interesing road trip, go to Clarksdale Mississippi. That's the town where Robert Johnson sold his soul (I believe he actually did it too) at the corner of Hwy 61 & 49. Clarksdale is one of the most musically significant American towns. The Delta Blues Museum is located in the town as is several real juke-joints. The list of bluesmen that called Clarksdale home is staggering. Look it up. BTW, the place is dirt poor but fascinating. Morgan Freeman's juke-joint (I wrote Jambands.ca on the bar along with Long Live nero) along with his 5-star restaurant are highlights too.
  22. His drumming on "Working Man" is powerful. My favourite Rush song for sure. R.I.P.
  23. Sorry Jaimoe, I simply cannot share your defeatist attitude. So, what would you do? Ban cars altogether? And how would you realistically sell that plan? Banning cars isn't realistic in our infrastructure-challenged society. Selling the importance of high density and less reliance on commuting by car would help. It's related to out-of-control urban sprawl. Oh yeah, and this all relates on at least one level with the foreseen rising food prices that will hit North America shortly (I said "one level" BradM).
  24. Of course I don't like seeing all the layoffs in Windsor and Oshawa either.
