  1. The Hives kick ass, but they were originally a designed band. I can't call The Who "The Who" anymore.
  2. I've liked what I've heard, but I don't think they'll ever top Chulahoma, and that excellent release doesn't better Junior Kimbrough. I really love The Black Keys though and have to get this new album. They hit Toronto's Phoenix with another great two-piece, The Kills, in early August.
  3. One of my best friends went to see Beck there a year or so ago. He said the sound was good from where he was situated. It's funny to think that if Jack did a solo show, he'd sell-out many mid-sized venues. Actually, The Raconteurs are selling-out venues in the US for this tour, but of course Toronto is an entirely different bag, but goddamit, The White Stripes are monster big here. Maybe the lack of a monster lead-off Canadian chart hit (even though "Salute Your Solution" is better than most songs off of the first album) may have prompted slow ticket sales... if this is the reason for the venue change in the first place.
  4. So you liken a manufactured boy-band that didn't pen their own songs or create their own image with real musicians not called The Monkees or The Hives?
  5. And just when I was starting to get some respect for Donnie (Band of Brothers and film character actor) Wahlberg, he up and pulls this stunt.
  6. Depending on the show, the atmosphere isn't great in there, but the worst thing is the almost consistently murky sound, especially near the front and sides. Depending on how heavy-sounding the band is - and by heavier meaning the bigger the problem - the sound is almost always muddy as hell. That being said, I think the venue has improved in recent years. I've seen a few concerts where the audio was good. I think you still roll the dice at Kool Haus from band to band. It's the uncertainty that get me down. One other big complaint though - and I haven't me a soul who disagrees - is the location. Man, it really sucks down in that decrepid part of town. No ambience or great vibe to be had for a few city blocks.
  7. I don't get the love for one of the worst venues in the city phish.
  8. What's all the loyalty towards the aged ZZ Top anyways? They are pretty stationary and static on stage, plus they jumped the shark creatively and commercially when videos from Eliminator dominated MTV. The last important record they did was Degüello, released back in 1979. Old Aerosmith vs New Aerosmith? How about Old ZZ Top vs New ZZ Top with their 80's video image, brand and over-produced albums? Let the bullets fly.
  9. ... from The Ricoh to the dreaded Kool Haus. Same date: June 5/08. I guess this means a sell-out is more than a possibility.
  10. Happy Birthday Julia! Celebrate with a ballgame tonight!
  11. I was just curious what people thought about the murders of Canadians. Whatever.
  12. Can you pass out at a lower weekly beer count than before?
  13. That's nothing: Ever heard of, or personally see some of the "selections" in Japanese vending machines?
  14. Wasn't it a compromise though, just to get her out of that hell-hole? She wasn't going to last another year down there. I found the recognition compassionate.
  15. We do tend to coddle criminals in this country' date=' yes. [/quote'] Is she guilty? In Mexican law, the accused is guilty until proven innocent... and it's Mexico, not Canada.
  16. I'm really thinking hard about this show... and calling in sick as a result.
  17. It's still unsure whether Canadians are targeted, according to reports from our officials and journalists - from all accounts that I've read or seen on the news - but it's a troubling statistic. Mexico isn't the only vacationing hot-spot, but it seems to be getting more dangerous. The last murder was unbelievable. At least we got that woman back from the Mexican prison.
  18. I'm not sure, but I think there's a few more Canadians living in Canada than vacationing in Mexico.
  19. They ain't Canadian, I tell you whut. I just re-watched The Hour interview and they ain't that liberal either - like I originally thought. But they are honest, likable and best of all, open-minded. The Hour:
  20. I saw them interviewed on Strombo's show. They are pretty liberal-political and quite thought-provoking; the interview left me really impressed. I saw them perform on Leno a little while ago and they were pretty darn good. They are a dash of old country, young country and southern-tinged rock.
  21. I can't imagine it would be a collaborative concert. Look for a double-bill. I don't find anything offensive about Brooks & Dunn either. They ain't my bag, but I've seen live footage of them on TV shows and concert clips and they seem to put on a good live show.
  22. Any worry about the rash of Canadians getting murdered in Mexico over the last few years, the most recent being the unsolved killing of a B.C. man? Just curious.
  23. I originally felt back when this website was called Phish Sanctuary that the rock legend's name I borrowed along with his band for that matter, weren't getting their due in this "community" at the time - although jam was alive and thriving back then. Some of the early board members were too consumed to care about any band other than Phish.
