  1. I think it was, but it was released in Ireland and the U.K. almost two years ago. Do not be shocked if it gets some Oscar notice.
  2. I just got two tickets to the Swell Season concert (the side-project the two stars of Once call themselves). They are on tour and hit Toronto on November 23rd at The Danforth Music Hall. Once has some of the most moving music I've heard in a movie in decades. I'm going to the concert and I still haven't seen the film, but the music is just so damned beautiful. Once is the only movie I've desperately wanted to see all year.
  3. Today's Toronto Star article confirms the Globe article from June. Way to go with the quick follow-up, Chris Zelkovich: http://www.thestar.com/Sports/NHL/article/258921
  4. Greg Quill from The Star gave the show a middling review. My friend Don, who is one of you militant Rush fans, said the show was really good, although the sound was murky on Geddy's vocals. He also thought leading off with five new songs after their 20 minute break was an energy killer. Still, he liked it.
  5. Every time I see Alicia interviewed, she comes off as a giggly lunatic, so no Dave, I wouldn't want to be in the background.
  6. Does she still have a film career?
  7. She's a class A loon, and it has little to do with her diet, although she's made her pets vegetarians.
  8. Thanks for the post Jay. I rode my bike to work all summer long including today, but I wish I didn't find out about Car Free Day until I turned on Breakfast TV at 6:00 this morning. Poor promotions by the city once again.

    Help needed

Try Port Hope. At least four good restaurants and a good night life for a small town with the best rated heritage main street in Ontario. It's also is the unofficial antique capital. Port Hope is famous for their excellent variety of B&B's, but the town also has a high class inn with an upscale restaurant. Or, try Picton. It has wineries that rival Niagra (but in a much smaller scale) and the town is really nice and home to a world renowned chef school... thus the food in the area is fantastic.
  10. I picked up my tickets to next Tuesday's show. Just a heads-up to the one or two of you that may be fans that the venue is closing in on being sold out. The DMH box office is open daily until 6pm, so if you don't want to pay the Ticketmaster service charges...
  11. Is it fair to judge someone by their religion? Is it a religion?
  12. Find where I said I love Gibbons. Good riddance bandwagon driver.
  13. I abhor Beck when he does his white soul stage act, but he's great when straps on a guitar and rocks it up.
  14. I think you need to see both Becks live.
  15. Losman is as brutal as his offensive line, which is offensive.
  16. The fucking Toronto market is only showing the Bills-Steelers game, at least on standard cable. One good thing is that I work with a pseudo-hardcore Bills fan and he's wearing an official Lynch #23 jersey today... and he bet on the Bills covering the spread.
  17. You won't have to rebuild the team if JP were fired. He didn't rebuild the team when Gord Ash got fired. A lot of the Jays best players were drafted and/or signed by Ash and JP was smart enough not to deal them away. Another GM would do the same, we'd hope. Of course some players would be traded or dumped. One guy that we should also look at is Jays president Paul Godfrey. He pulls more strings than you'd think.
  18. I read about Halladay getting yanked when I got back from Ireland. I haven't seen any highlights of that particular game either.
  19. I went to a lecture last night at the U of T by Jane Goodall. She 'delightfully' mentioned that biofueled cars and SUV's are bad for the environment, even though they are marketed as green. It's pretty obvious when you think about what the fuel is and where it comes from. Anyway, I'm not sure if biofueled cars and vans fall under the hybrid title, but good it's something to consider if they do.
  20. Well' date=' if you ask Bob McCown and Jim Kelly, they will also tell you that this team is POORLY coached. Like Jim said yesterday "How many games did this team throw away in the heat of their playoff run, because of stupid mental errors like not hitting the cut-off man?" Things like that are placed squarely on the coaches shoulder. Trust me. I am a Raiders fan. What about that game while you were in Ireland Dave? I sent you a link to the story. Gibbons handed in the WRONG batting lineup before the game! That's bush-league shit. As far as I am concerned, the only way Riccardi should be able to keep his job is if he fires Gibbons. [/quote'] Yes, I forgot about that email you sent me. Gibbons also has made some real bonehead moves all year, especially regarding pitching decisions - he yanks Doc last week in the 9th only to see the bullpen blow the game. He's gotta go.
  21. You could always play the last few Ben Harper and Dave Matthews Band albums in a continuous loop.
  22. And I'm not going after Thomas. His play was just symtamatic with the rest of the injury-plagued, underachivering and J.P.'s Billy Ball Blue Jays.
