I agree with that. Park should have scored on the empty net. Ronaldo should have bagged at least one of his chances (nevermind the wasted kick they gave to Giggs). Berbatov had a chance at a header. So did Vidic. Just to name a few. Didn't like the introduction of Paul "Yellow Card" Scholes. That was a white flag, wasting a sub to give an old boy one last glory. Decent final while it was 1-0. Not very gripping at the end.

New brewpub in Hull located on Montcalm in the old brick building near the canal locks. Opened last Friday. Went there for lunch today with some colleagues. They had 13 beers on tap, 1 of which they brew in-house and 12 from various Quebec microbreweries. The in-house was excellent. Some of the tables have taps so you can serve yourself at $0.25/oz. Food menu was small, about 10 items max but everything came with soup and dessert. I had the fish at $14. Reasonable prices and above average pub food. The brewery and kitchen are completely open so you can see everything that's going on behind the scenes. I think they plan to to install a beer museum at some point. The building is deceptively large. The patio by the canal looks killer for sunny days. I highly recommended a visit. http://brasseursdutemps.com/

The life goes on thing... ultimately I think the Bilderberg group is harmless in the grand scheme of things. There's too much infrastructure in place to make it desirable for a shadow group to affect that much change for the worse.

Certainly that's part of it but on an even more obvious level, discretion protects the state from its enemies. Be they homegrown dissidents or foreign interlopers, a completely open government bereft of any level of secrecy severely inhibits its ability to sustain itself. Why are Walmart and the like at the table? They probably bought their seats. I don't like it much either but I also don't know that my fear isn't irrational. I accept it on the level that we live in a capitalist society and business has a big part in driving the economy. Ultimately I think that life goes on despite the backroom machinations of the upper crust.
