  1. http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/246763/ Anybody else in for this? I've been meaning to get to a Megan Jerome Trio show, so this could be a really fun night. Aloha, Brad

  3. Draft beers (St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat, St. Ambroise Pale Ale, St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, Griffin Blonde) were $5 each last night. Aloha, Brad
  4. I stand corrected; I had thought that the only common member at that time was Garcia. Aloha, Brad
  5. Are The Grateful Dead and New Riders Of The Purple Sage one band or two? http://the-roadhouse-viander.blogspot.com/2008/06/grateful-dead-evening-with-grateful.html Aloha, Brad
  6. Nope. My memory of last year's Wesfest is the outrageous beer prices. Mind you' date=' that's offset by the free concert but still.[/quote'] OK, maybe I'm thinking of the year before. Aloha, Brad
  7. Hmmm...great weather, (I hope) reasonably cheap beer (ISTR $5 draft Stella last year), free concert (by an artist I've heard a lot about, but never heard), and ending fairly early. I'll try to be there. Aloha, Brad
  8. Some recipes I've seen also have a spirit, like brandy or Triple Sec, in them. Aloha, Brad
  9. It looks like the whole album is streamable at http://www.myspace.com/theholdsteady Aloha, Brad
  10. I'm not a teacher, but I saw an episode of CBC's "Marketplace" that dealt with recycling batteries http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/batteries_not_included/ and they featured a school in St. Catherines that ran a "dead battery drive." Maybe something like that would be good? Aloha, Brad
  11. It's even harder, because my guess is that the band will be set up in front of Eaton's, in that courtyard-ish area near the elevators, which means there won't be any (legal) source of alcohol, and, being very far indoors, ducking out for things won't work very well. I think the closest licensed establishment will be the Elephant & Castle, but I'm not sure whether it'll open early enough on a Sunday morning to give us time to get in shape for the show. This situation may require assistance from The Snoot Squod. Aloha, Brad
  12. I'm imagining MSH band members sitting behind a merch table, with a single copy of some random CD bought at a yard sale, and a "Make us an offer" sign on it. Aloha, Brad

    Go To Meal

I wanted something cooked but quick last night, so opted to use up the smoked meat and smoked gouda I had in the fridge to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The minor snag was that I don't keep butter or margarine on hand, as I don't use them for toasted products or sandwiches, so I just heated up a small frying pan and put vegetable oil in it, adding a bit more for the other side when flip-time arrived. It came out really well, hardly indistinguishable from the usual butter-the-outside grilled cheese. Aloha, Brad
  14. Happy Day, Hickster! Aloha, Brad
  15. Mike Sasso will be performing with a (or his) dixieland band at the Rideau Centre on Sunday, June 22, at noon. It's a free show. http://www.ottawajazzfestival.com/en/events/eventDetails.asp?artistID=850 I talked to Mike on Monday about it, and he said it's going to be more New Orleans horn-based stuff, rather than pure dixieland. I think if we could muster a crew of a couple of dozen drunk and rowdy revellers for this one, it could be loads of fun. Aloha, Brad
  16. He's also at the Ottawa Blues Fest on Saturday, July 12. Live recordings of Ryan are available at http://www.archive.org/details/RyanMontbleau Aloha, Brad
  17. Just to fill in what I wrote: From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder Further, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder#Canada Aloha, Brad
  18. Note that intent is only a requirement for first-degree murder (and even then, all that's needed is intent to kill; exactly who gets killed, and whether the killed person was the killer's intended victim, is immaterial). Other kinds of murder, like second-degree murder, don't require intent, but just something like reckless disregard for life. Aloha, Brad

And (gods forbid) if you ever need to patrol the neighbourhood calling out for her, it'd be a great opportunity to rehearse for "A Streetcar Named Desire." Aloha, Brad
