Jaimoe
The Omega Man (1971)- a great cult movie. It's campy and creepy at the same time... and parodied in a Simpsons' Halloween episode called The Homega Man. Charlton Heston's fashion sense in this movie is timely and thus funny. Major Canadian cult-road movie: Goin' Down the Road (1970). Also parodied in a SCTV skit with John Candy and Joe Flaherty. Famous repeated line: " Let's go to Yonge Street. Woooo ". Tungsten Gruvsten
damnit i was away all day, what a freakin thread to miss! ok gotta chime in, i love cult movies, you guys have hit on so many of my faves-I think Evil Dead et al are pretty well the epitome, and I love the Troma team releases as well...Brazil is one of my hands down favourites of all time-i think of it everytime i'm on the Gardiner and see the Billboards lining the road.... I really like a bunch of Russ Meyer flicks...especially UP and the tame Ebert-written 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'...now UP, Supervixen and the rest of the 'Bosomania' series are right off the wall-i suggest BtVotD first for sure...wacko! Also, speaking of LOTR, Peter Jackson's early effort called Dead Alive is zombiefreakingtastic! It's got tons of gore done re-animator style, also has the best line from a preacher: "I kick ass for the Lord!" damn there are so many good ones!! Santo-the Mexican wrestler/Lawyer...has to be seen to be believed...uh, Danger Diabolik, it's like if the producers of 60's Batman made a James Bond movie!! TheSloth
I got in on this way to late but I just gotta say without a doubt "Omega Man" is my favortie B-movie (probably followed by Evil Dead). I always said if I ever get a shitload of money Im buying the rights - redoing it - and cashing in. Charleton Heston at his best. If you ever get a chance watch the original 1964 movie called "Last man on Earth" with Vincent Price as the lead or read the book its based on "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson. Speaking of Vincent Price - "The Abominable Dr. Phibes" isnt a bad Bmovie. If you ever get a chance to see the cult horror movie "Specter" give it a watch - its classic. I think someone also mentioned "Phantasm", another must. Im surprised no one mentioned "Starship Troopers", I laughed my ass off at that one. Jaimoe
As Canadians, we would be amiss to miss mentioning the greatest Canadian movie of all time. No not Porkies... Strange Brew!! Also, with future cult movie releases, I can't wait for the in-production Xena movie. Hey, no one mentioned the horror cult classics: Basket Case, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and all the George A. Romero directed movies, especially the original Night Of The Living Dead (1968).

I stand corrected, must have been one of those bullshit campfire rumours in high school... a quick search told me they were filmed in tennessee and michigan... oh well, it was a fun misconception for the past 18 years (no wonder I never found the cabin )
Jaimoe
Hey Paisley, speaking of finding The Evil Dead cabin. Apparently, fans still flock down to Tennessee to try and find it. However, Sam Raimi and Bruce said that the cabin burned down years ago. Only the fire-place remains... or a chimney. Actually, that sounds pretty creepy. Jaimoe
DAMN IT!! I totally forgot about Office Space. Mike Judge rules! Office Space is one of my favourite comedies of the last 10 years. Now, if only he'd make a King Of The Hill movie. It would sure be a cult classic. We shouldn't forget Swingers. Vince Vaughn slapping down those five $100 bills onto the black-jack makes me laugh every time.
Booche
Gotta agree massively with The Sloth, and I gotta tells ya buddy, I have often thought of buying those rights as well. Amazing how no one has re-done it. Well done............. Dolemite, The Human Tornadoe Please, dont play that at work, I wouldnt want to be the cause of your dismissal. Jaimoe
This just occured to me: No wonder so many of you on this thread like B and/or cult movies. Cult movies are original, take chances cinematically, don't rely on special effects to drive their plots, have real cult heroes who don't necessary strive to be in the mainstream, touch fans on a very personal and meaningful level, and have a hugely loyal and obsessive fan-base with a thriving sub-culture. Essentially, what the jam music and scene is all about.
Groove Fetish
I can't beleive I missed the Rocky Picture Show myself...there are so many...once again great thread... and going down the road.... oh...can't wait to see what else gets added... Jaimoe
Hey Paisley, if you like Phantasm and the Evil Dead movies, then you'll like Phantasm director Don Coscarelli's latest movie: Bubba Ho-Tep. It stars Bruce Campbell as a geriatric Elvis, battling a soul-sucking mummy in a Texas old folks home... with a black J.F.K. ( played expertly by Ossie Davis ). It's my favourite movie of 2002. It hasn't been released yet, but the reviews have all been good when the movie is screened: Toronto International Film Festival, in Chicago, in LA etc... It should get released, but it's hard to market the movie - no kidding? Bruce and Ossie play their characters thankfully straight. The movie is funny and a little scary, but it has soul and a great script. See it if you have the chance.

Jaimoe
A few more: Enter The Dragon Superfly Dark City Any Cronenberg movie. Any Roger Corman movie ( the emitome of cult movie directors ). Time Bandits Bottle Rocket Requiem For A Dream may be too new of a movie with a well know cast and had a substantial wide theatrical release. Maybe over time it may be considered a cult movie. The Shawshank Redemtion has similar traits to RFAD: it did poorly at the box-office; had good lead stars; critics loved it; and did huge business on video. Shawshank is a marginal cult movie IMO, but a great movie none-the-less.
