Blah blah blah Phish is playing in Vegas I love Phish so much I'm going to cry if I don't get to see them for the eight gajillionth time. And I really gotta get my fix of Cheese, moe, the Biscuits, Particle, Galactic, Seth Hackavone Band, Sample In A Jam, Porch Monkey and the New South and every other god damn jamband on the planet. Yeah we get it, every available cent goes to the jams. Now the Pixies that's a good fucking concert and Prince are you mutherfuckin' kidding me.....

and of course Hall & Oates featuring Michael McDonald (of the latter day Doobie Brothers)!!!! Fuggedaboutit.

Just curious, what if The Slip was doing a 3 night run in, oh, say Guelph... Would your dollars still be "wasted" in seeing those shows instead of seeing Hall & Oates? Which would you pick? I'm not slagging on H&O, but just curious why you slag those who would rather see Phish in Vegas for 3 nights (with all the aftershows, parties, gambling, etc. associated with such a trip). I'm sure H&O will put on a great show, but it's not like the debauchery one can partake in at a jam show, especially 3 nights of Phish in a town like Vegas... I wish I was in Vegas for Phish... :(

Yeah, but you'll be in Ottawa for nero! :) And GTB! :)

I (along with six helpers) entered the lottery for Phish Vegas tix, and we all got frozen out completely, and I was actually a bit relieved: had I got a ticket for, say, just the Saturday Phish show, I would have had a serious dilemma: incur the expense and travel overhead of going to Vegas for one (confirmed) show, or stay here in town and party with the boyz? I bet I would have stayed here; by getting frozen out, I didn't have to decide.

However, people's mileage may vary; I have no quibble with those who went, and if things had worked differently (like if I had got tix for all three nights), I might be there with them.

Aloha,

Brad

I don't need to prove the supreme majesty that is Daryl and John. You don't think a young Trey used to rock to that while driving around Vermont in his dad's BMW with some fledgling proto-groupie polishing his knob? This is the roots music.

Forgive my ignorance, but I always thought Hall & Oates kinda sucked! Even when they showed up at the Grateful Dead's final Rainforest Benefit show at MSG in NYC on 9/24/88, I thought there might be a lot of disappointment apparent in the room that night (though hey, they were all there for a good cause). Anyway, to H&O's credit, they did a really sweet "What's Going On" and my opinion of them was mildly transformed ;)

kung - first of all let me say thanks for the Hall and Oates info. Although the smoke and mullets that are an inevitable part of the Casinorama concert experience are probably enough to put me off this one, it's certainly a show I'd otherwise consider, and who knows you may see me up there yet.

Second though, I have to tell you that I thought the whole tenor of your initial post was just silly. What's your point here, people post too much about Phish or other jambands? Come on man, it is after all is said and done jambands.ca, the fact is most people here like lots of music but are draw to this particular board 'cus they have a common interest in jam music of which Phish is a prime player, so where the hell else should they be posting their ride requests and setlists and whatnot? On a hardcore board? Or are you trying to say there isn't enough posting about other bands or types of music? Hmmmm, well I think I saw a pretty healthy thread going earlier about that Prince show, and at least a couple of posts about the Pixies, and on a regular basis about the merits of plenty "non-jambands" insofar as well need to get into the whole who is and isn't a jamband thing for the zillionth time. So I sort of don't see the issue there either.

I guess what really struck me is that you posting apparent commentary on too much Phish talk while posting a message about Hall and Oates struck me as ironic. Come on dude, you posting another Hall and Oates message is probably a worse cliché than me posting another Rush message! You're sounding like at least as bad a broken record as anybody who posts Phish info here - if I may paraphrase blah blah blah Hall and Oates, Ween, The Slip, Broken Social Scene, blah blah blah - all excellent bands, yeh okay agreed, we get it!

If you're trying to encourage expression of a more diverse musical worldview, at least do it in a post where you're stretching yours a bit.

Peace,

Mr. M.

P.S. And for the record by far the coolest thing Michael McDonald ever did was the backing vocals on Steely Dan's "Peg".

Okay fine fair enough, but I do think it was a sub par joke and not up your to your standards. It's okay thou, I know you can do better next time. :P

Maybe get back in the practice room with your 'band' and learn some good songs for a change.

Yeh yeh yeh, just you wait 'til we pull out our mega-epic version "Sara Smiles" with a 27 minute harmonica solo and we'll see who's laughing then ya bastard! ;)

Seriously thou, I still do want to talk the band into doing "Family Man" sometime, although we'd probably use the Mike Oldfield/Maggie Reilly version as reference if only for Tara 'cus it's probably a better range for her.

- M.
