AD
I heard the same thing about The Main.i'm no smoked meat expert, but i can't really tell the difference between The Main and Schwartz's. Except that yeah, The Main is cheaper and you save a lot of time.

AD
Pay heed to my caveat though - I'm no smoked meat expert. I read all the posts about charcuterie and germantown etc etc and I think y'all know a bit more about this stuff than me. But I guess the best way is to try for yourself. phorbesie
I heard about a place called "The Main", which is right across St. Laurent from Schwartz's, and which apparently has smoked meat that's almost as good, but which usually isn't nearly as crowded as Schwartz's. Does anybody know it, or has anybody tried it?Aloha,Bradi haven't been to schwartz's so i guess i can't compare them, but i've been to the main and it was awesome!! very cheap too if i recall (though someone was treating). ollie
Thanks Sharon! I held out until week 6 before trying Vanelli's. Never again!I have found one very good spot further south on St. Joseph called 5 Sens Cafe but it's a 40 minute return trip (by foot) just to get something to go. Cosmic ChrisC
Oh Ollie, I have been thinking about you and lunches for weeks! It means I love ya when I worry about what you're having for lunch. Hear hear Sharon! Ollie e-mails me almost every day to tell me what he had for lunch and it's pretty much always negative, so then I get sad, and I tell him that I am sad, and then he says he won't tell me what he had for lunch anymore because he doesn't like upsetting me. hee hee. But it's just because I care that I get upset! Ollie loves lunchtime!

Sadly Thursday is their weakest soup day (minestrone).I had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich with a small bowl of chili from mmmuffins today. It was good.
