Kanada Kev
In March 1966, Smythe sold his remaining shares and resigned from the board of directors after a Muhammad Ali boxing match was scheduled for the Gardens. He found Ali's refusal to serve in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War to be offensive and said that by accepting the fight, Gardens owners had "put cash ahead of class." Thanks for that info. I hadn't heard that story before. I'm not saying either one is right, but I commend them BOTH for having the character to stand up and take action on what they believed in. Smythe was a WWI and WWII veteran so it's understandable that he would not understand a person's decision to NOT want to serve in the military. I'm sure he slept better after selling his shares and remaining classy Interesting reading that he also became "a vocal critic of government policy that made overseas service voluntary, and was threatened with a court martial. In 1965, he unsuccessfully lobbied for the Canadian Red Ensign to be flown at the Gardens instead of the new Flag of Canada."
ollie
The teaser for Sportscentre today is great. It has Wade Belak facing a group of reporters whining, "I'm sure all you guys have sent naked pictures to your wives."

PassedOutGuy
Think its time the Leafs pull a "Major League" and play a game against the Marlies...The freakin MArlies are unbeaten in regulation time to start the season...

Kanada Kev
Holy Fuck!THAT was an entertaining game. Where have THOSE Leafs been all year. They were definitely the better team tonight. Got all 3 stars easily.Totally thought that Alfie was going to wreck the shutout at the end there.Good on ya Leafs ... lets see some more of THAT! dave-O
Credit where it's deserved - the Leafs played a great game Saturday from start to finish. Easily the best effort I've seen from them this year.

Whitey
Of course a post from AD. Where were you on Saturday and Sunday AD?
AD
Well, Saturday I was disappointed by the Junior B game the Sens played. Sunday I was looking forward to the Sens / Habs game.Monday I stated the following facts:Ottawa's record worsened to 15-3 over the weekend, while Toronto's improved to 8-8-5. Kanada Kev
Well, first two periods were good ... talk about end-to-end play. Typical third period breakdown ... bummer Guess they need another match with AD's Junior B Sens, 'cause we all know that the teams on the ice on Saturday played like Junior B teams ... yep. Booche
talk about end-to-end play.I didnt see the game but Pierre McGuire said on The Team this morning that this was the worst game he has seen in the last 5 years. No emotion, no hitting, completely boring. The only person that seemed to care was Tuukka Rask.
Jaimoe
I had the game on at work and couldn't wait for the Raptors game to start, which was far more interesting. I don't if I've ever seen a softer big team than the Leafs. Edited November 21, 2007 by Guest
Kanada Kev
The biggest (and one of the only) hits was when Antropov steamrolled through a B on the blue line.
