backbacon
Free - wasn't that Phish's only charting single? That would be my pick. I would say it not widely associated and is a pretty accurate representation of the artist's overall sound. I could be wrong though. #254: But that's not what they sound like: Songs widely associated with a given artist that aren't an accurate representation of the artist's overall sound. 1. Blind Melon - No Rain 2. White Stripes - Little Ghost 3. Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy 4. The Gourds - Gin & Juice 5. The Grateful Dead - Touch Of Grey 6. Stevie Wonder - I just called to say I love you 7. Genesis - I Can't Dance 8. Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage 9. Phish - Free 10. Los Lobos- La Bamba 11. Pink Floyd - Money 12. I went ahead and took off Hot dog since we all seemed to agree on that. (plus I didn't want to pick the next album topic.) Sorry Boiler Rat! Kanada Kev
Great pick with Lobos! I'm also in with the Floyd one as well ... very well known and to me, is the song that is the weakest on DSOTM and a bit out of place.

Not many people in the world could name *any* Phish song, let alone that one. Furthermore, I'm not sure that Free is unrepresentative of Phish anyway. hamilton
I propose substituting Chumbawumba's Tubthumping for Phish's Free and letting allison start the new topic.
allison
I'm starting a new topic out of respect for hamilton......#255 Songs about going to a show(concert) as a performer.1. allison
Time Bomb by Rancid would have been a good pick too for topic # 254.
AD
edit to add: what's the Phish equivalent of Touch of Grey?I'd say one of the following:Bouncing Around The RoomSimpleContactFree - wasn't that Phish's only charting single? That would be my pick.it was my pick as the answer to phishtaper's question, not for this game (which is why i didn't submit it myself, hehe). i don't think phish had an overall sound, and i don't think anyone outside of phish-people could name that song as belonging to phish, or any other song of theirs.i still think though that Free was Phish's Touch of Grey. #11 on the charts, baby! [color:purple]and dont think I will forget you bastards cutting me off the last list ... as much as I stole the track from AD, I do think that Free IS the only song the masses would ever have heard of Phish on the radio, AND its way too poppy to be "representative" of the band.
