It's an epic journey of a song, as it were (and crafted by genuine home-grown skanks), concerned with - as I read it, anyway - someone who's being given continual grief for, among other innocuous reasons, going out of an occasion to have himself a good time. Said fella, thus, needs a place to which to get away.

How's that for a roundabout way to rope in a tune which was going around in my head anyway ;) .

Ok, so does that one count? Who's going to arbitrate these, btw (the instigator of this theme, perhaps)?

Times are tough, frustration

Need relief, medication

Gone to far, intoxication

Fight the urge, of temptation

Miles ago, no destination

Is a real, hallucination

Lose the dream, of stagnation

Feel so lost, desperation

Sanctuary

It's much too close, cantamination

Love and pain, and deviation

Just suck it all, ejaculation

It's much to late, for damnation

When I was young,

My mother told me,

She said "Son,

Someday everything's gonna be alright.

There's no excape,

There's no salvation,

It's much to dark, for revelation."

Well, I can't arbitrate when my own entry is challenged, so I leave that to Ms_Zimmy, but The Evil Mouse's entry passes; in my book.

Carry on, then...

EDIT TO ADD: B.T.W. I love the fact that no one even considered challenging Hartamophone's entry; as it's just self-evident. laughing-smiley-014.gif

Please defend "Disease of Conceit" Alabama Man.

-Conceit

  • A favorable and especially unduly high opinion of one's own abilities or worth.
  • An ingenious or witty turn of phrase or thought.
  • A fanciful poetic image, especially an elaborate or exaggerated comparison.
  • A poem or passage consisting of such an image.
  • The result of intellectual activity; a thought or an opinion.
  • A fanciful thought or idea.
  • A fancy article; a knickknack.
  • An extravagant, fanciful, and elaborate construction or structure: “An eccentric addition to the lobby is a life-size wooden horse, a 19th century conceit†(Mimi Sheraton).

Personally, I see all of the above on this board.

12. War - Why Can't We Be Friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

I seen you 'round for a long long time

I really 'membered you when you drink my wine

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

I seen you walkin' down in Chinatown

I called you but you could not look around

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

I bring my money to the welfare line

I see you standing in it every time

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

The color of your skin don't matter to me

As long as we can live in harmony

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

I'd kinda like to be the President

so I can show you how your money's spent

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Sometimes I don't speak too bright

but yet I know what I'm talking about

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

I know you're working for the CIA

they wouldn't have you in the Mafia

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

Why can't we be friends?

rationale:

~~people often do their best to 'play nicely' here

~~when people do speak harshly of others, there is often a quick backlash "Why can't we be friends?", followed by alternate lashes of "we don't all HAVE to be friends and like each other" sorta thing

~~and finally there seems to be lines of grandiosity and illusion/delusion in the lyrics as well
