Esau.
Pulled the vinyl out earlier in honour. The fourth album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin was released on 8 November 1971. No title is printed on the album, so it is generally referred to as Led Zeppelin IV, following the naming standard used by the band's first three studio albums. The album has alternatively been referred to as the Four Symbols logo, Four Symbols, The Fourth Album (those two titles each having been used in the Atlantic catalogue), Untitled, The Runes, The Hermit, and ZoSo, the latter of which is derived from the symbol used by Jimmy Page for the album sleeve. ZoSo has subsequently been used as moniker for Jimmy Page.Upon its release, Led Zeppelin IV was a commercial and critical success. The album is one of the best-selling albums worldwide at 32 million units. It has shipped over 23 million units in the United States alone, making it the third-best-selling album ever in the US. In 2003, the album was ranked 66th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". :chug:

Esau.
I'm sure Led Zeppelin IV appreciates the b-day wishes. My 40th on the other hand, was well over a year ago.
edger
Forty years old, and yet my three year old idolizes them. That makes me smile.

Northern Wish
I can remember finding this in the basement of my grandparents where my uncle lived. The weird peasant art caught my eye for some reason. In hindsight my uncle was a total stoner who was mooching off of them, but he had the proverbial awesome 70's basement scene; blacklights, crushed velvet posters, bean bag chairs and a few crates of vinyl with one of those old 4 sphere speaker "hi fi"s.He used to go out and I'd put on the records, mostly the ones that I liked the artwork for. I didn't go for IV first- that would be next, but rather Houses of the Holy. Either way it didn't matter- those hours changed me forever.Floyd, The Who, Springsteen, The Band, Little Feat - those were all Cypress Ave basement discoveries. My uncle still has the mullet! boiler
I went through about a two year period in high school when I only listened to Zeppelin and a little bit of The Who. Everything else was too inferior to even bother with.
geomouse
Happy Birthday Zep IV! Like some others here, that album really changed how I listened to and appreciated music. The Who's - Live at Leeds was another. Is it your Bday too Greg? If so we're a day apart...Keep on Bro!
Esau.
Is it your Bday too Greg? If so we're a day apart...Keep on Bro! Nah, my 42nd will be in june, thanks though. But Happy birthday to you, in advance. I just figured this album was perhaps one of the standards most folks here probably owned and/or grew up with and it was worth noting it turned forty. Perhaps I should have worded it differently, but I figured the bold part in my original post would be self explanatory.
backbacon
It was the first cassette I bought... well besides the cassette-single for Neneh Cherry's Buffalo Stance, but that doesn't count, does it.

Hartamophone
It wasn't the first album that I bought, but it was the first one I bought where I felt like I was doing something cool. I still feel the same way every time I listen to it (that is to say, delusional).
