Part of me thinks that Sundin is just going to choose to retire - which is too bad, because he's a classy dude and an awesome player who deserves to have his name on the Cup, and playing for Montreal next year would give him a good shot at achieving that. The Toronto media and the fans who blamed him for not accepting a trade last year will be mostly to blame if Sundin decides to move elsewhere in 08-09.

Haha I know what you mean.. Anything since The Slackers? How's this year's Pentaport looking? Is Flow Festival still happening? Also, I saw that a few months ago there was a 2-night Dead tribute going on somewhere in Itaewon, did you check that out? Hope all is well over there. I miss it more often than I thought I would! That Dead cover band was absolutely horrendous ( I think they were called Mystic Travellers, or something equally stupid). I went up to check it out, had one beer and left after three songs. If you assembled any six stoners you know who can play instruments with marginal competency in a room and let them rehearse together for two hours you would have an even chance of having a band that sounds at least as good as those guys did. I haven't seen the Pentaport lineup, although my friend Jane's band made the cut. I haven't seen anything non-jazz since the Slackers... mostly because there hasn't been anything else worth seeing! I would be happy if Sigur Ros came to town, though.

Diet is only half of the plan if you're going to lose weight - exercise is key. While I could never recommend the Disco Biscuits to anyone, getting out for regular long walks at a decent speed is a good start. Also, scan the newspaper classifieds to see if you can find an inexpensive treadmill, stationary bike or ellipitical (even better because they don't cause your knees and hips any stress) - people are always buying new ones then not using them and unloading them when they realize that they aren't going to use them, so you should be able to find one without too much difficulty.

This is a pretty big loss for the jazz community. Svensson has made some pretty cool albums (at least the ones that I heard, anyway) and he was pretty young still. R.I.P.
