  1. Gordie Johnson is bringing his roaring beast of a band back to Ottawa to shake to the ground the walls of Barrymore's Music Hall this coming Tuesday folks. This quote from their website sums it up nicely: http://www.shadygrady.net/index.htm

    USA is #1.

I remember reading somewhere that almost half of all Americans in prison are there on drug charges, and that about half of them are in for pot. Good ol' Land of the Free.
  3. Dumpling House dumplings are good, but for eating out nothing in Ottawa beats Northern Han on Somerset. (please feel free to prove me wrong folks)They are so good. Shanghai also has pretty good dumplings and will make them veg if you ask, even though that option isn't presented on the menu. And they deliver. I've never tried making them myself. Kowloon Market is a wicked awesome store.
  4. Thanks for the link, New Rider. "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" is easily in my top ten albums of all time.
  5. Your life is way too much better than mine. please stop posting about it. I think you should go to Flin Flon.

    Oz Kafe

I'm sure I've raved about Oz before on this site. The "different stuff" is all killer AD. Best dolmas in town. Even the scallop potatoes are awesome. I'm glad you liked it, Oz is an old friend of mine and it is great to see her do well. Brad, the draught beer selection is limited but does include Beaus, at least.
  8. Wow, dima, you've come a long way in your thinking... http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/241838/fromsearch/1/hl/facebook/tp/1/
  9. Bad news, Sharon. I'm sorry to hear that. My place was broken into during the Bluesfest last summer and I know how you feel. Maybe these are the same people that did in your hot tub. Don't let the bastards get you down.
  10. Awesome. I'll check back to see how this one is coming along in early April.

  12. I was at that show, Brad. The openers, Mammatus from California, were killer, too. http://www.myspace.com/mammatus
  13. Yea sure but it isn't that difficult. Between wikipedia, google, and the Smithsonian Folkways websites, not to mention allmusic.com it should be pretty simple. Alabama/Esau left a few huge hints as well. You can count me on that hand, by the way.
  14. Page 3 again. Perhaps this should be the legendary eleven song album game...
  15. I have. If you like heavy, psychedelic droning metal and chakra-stirring baselines, they are your cup of (heavily dosed) tea.
  16. Just bored. Think I'll stick with this one.

  18. Ain't it funny how a discussion about depression will inevitably turn into a discussion about alcohol? That said, alcohol does tend to get mentioned a lot around here, (i)regardless of the thread topic... I find listening to some really fast bluegrass music can lift me out of a bad space, for what that's worth.
  19. I saw there was a thread in the Ottawa shows section about this but figure it will get more exposure on the main page. I just want to put out tha La Bottine Sourainte are playing Saturday at 7pm. Check out some of their tunes here: http://www.bottinesouriante.com/intro.php Those of you old time Blue Skies attendees may well remember them. And the show is early and free and your kids will love them, parents.
  20. Dude, you just don't know... think I'll pour myself some Talisker right now
  21. A small black bear would lose to a large silverback gorilla. Brown and polar bears can get up to twice the weight of a gorilla and they are a lot taller, too. They also eat meat, hunt and kill for a living. Gorillas mostly lie around all day and eat veggies. So the smart money is on the bear. The only caveat I can see is if the contest were to happen at this time of year. The bear has been hibernating, so it is sleepy and has lost a lot of bulk. Now is the only time the gorilla would stand a chance.
