I haven't been to as many upscale restaurants as some here, but Whalesbone is definitely in my top 2 (and it's only the top 2 and not top 1 because sometimes I'm not in the mood for seafood / fish) (Also, there is the The Sustainable Oyster & Fish Supply on Kent Street between Arlington and Flora, run by Whalesbone. It's only open Friday and Saturday, but is hands down the best place to buy fish and seafood in Ottawa - if anyone doubts this check their customer list . And, little known fact, they serve lunches there on Fridays and Saturdays - usually the choices are a Perch Dog, a Walleye Burger, and a Salmon Sandwich. So delicious!!)

It's an easy walk to Preston Street from Centretown Kev. Under 25 minutes from your door to Stoneface Dolly's, if you choose to do that. So don't let the distance deter you!

Sorry - I gotta call out BradM on this - Elgin Street Diner and Cora's are shite, don't bother. Overpriced, blech, too greasy (ESD), very busy, rude (at Cora's), ug. My favourite is The Manx. Jak's is good but every time I go there it's a really long wait - Meggo must have a better breakfast strategy than me! Stoneface Dolly's is always very good. The Imperial has a great breakfast now, and you could probably get there from your place with your eyes closed, Kev. The Pump is decent but I think a bit overpriced. Lots of places in the Glebe - see this thread from OttawaFoodies for Glebe ideas (There is one really good post from some guy who goes by AD)

apostle will go on around 10 i don't know who the openers are but if there is one opener the show will start around 9 and if there are two then it will start around 8:30

his last show had the stupid DJ but the Townes album is great so this show will be great

Back to Hillside - the workshops / collaborations haven't been announced and they are almost always excellent or at least really fun.

Most / all of the lineup was announced a couple weeks ago, but website hasn't been updated. Holy F**k Busdriver Rural Alberta Advantage The D'urbervilles Ohbijou Attack in Black Woodhands Apostle of Hustle Julie Fader I hope there are more to be announced, esp for the Friday night. A hootenanny would be appreciated.

I agree with you and have made that argument many times in the past, but in this case I know 90% of the acts announced for Hillside and am able to give an informed opinion about the lineup.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I'm sure it will be a fun time, but very few of those many acts could get me excited about Hillside, especially when the ones I'd be interested in are playing other places this summer. Bidini - Black Sheep in June Great Lake Swimmers - First Baptist in June Holy Fuck - Wolfe Island Julie Doiron - She'll be back soon Rural Alberta Advantage - Wolfe Island Kevin Hearn Patrick Watson - Probably the only act that I'm interested in that I don't have plans to see elsewhere. His new disc is fantastic. Not to piss on Hillside's parade, but I don't think they're doing anything all that different this year. But of course it will be super fun for those that go - It's fun regardless of the lineup and what people like me say
