  1. well... the proximity is better at city hall. 2.5 km versus 0.5 km fom the site to rideau and sussex, using the shortest routes. and the stages are more intimate (i don't see how they can recreate the confines of the black sheep stage in an open field). and there is shade. and an air-conditioned building, with working toilets. and the new stage at lisgar collegiate was great. at least all the vendors will clean up with food sales because there's nowhere else to go now. not anywhere close to the kind of variety within a 10 minute walk from the city hall site. maybe the scotiabank place parking lot will be free in 2008, lots of unobstructed sightlines there. who wants to post-party in chinatown? not i. maybe they'll make it up to me and actually do something about the lawnchairs this year.
  2. in contention for best club show of the year either they have an amazing sound guy or they are the smartest band sonically. incredible clarity at deafening volume zaphods was packed, huuuge show. lots of stuff was destroyed at the end of the set. the drummer got a big gash on the ear from smashing a cymbal and was bleeding pretty good. lots of hits. incredible rocking, up to 11 on the dial. loved it
  3. nice work on the colours, underlines and bold-fonts. i could take or leave the content though.
  4. i don't know what you mean by 'indie'.... they are melodic, talented instrumentally, sing all in french, very good live, sometimes heavy, sometimes poppy.... here is a bio of them i found on the net
  5. Zaphods, $10 Anyone else going? Seen these guys 3 or 4 times now and I love 'em each time. Best riff I've heard in a loooong time in the song Casse-Cou ad *edit - they're going to be on CBC Radio 1 (91.5) in the next 45 minutes talking to Adrian Harewood.
  6. if you put 'Juicy,' Bulldogs' and 'Ass' into a sentence i bet a pretty nice pickup line could come out of it.

    Sassafraz on fire

what really bothers me is that people can 'afford' to buy a house yet not bother to buy insurance to protect said house. insurance is just as important as the walls, in my book. but i don't want to preach, i've never owned anything more expensive than a car, and even insurance on that is ridiculous. 9. Famed Yorkville hangout ablaze Five-alarm fire draws 40-plus fire trucks to downtown Toronto to fight fire at Sassafraz Dec. 13, 2006. 01:37 PM JOANNA SMITH STAFF REPORTER Over 40 fire trucks are on the scene as firefighters battle a five-alarm blaze at Sassafraz Café, an upscale restaurant in the heart of Yorkville known as a celebrity hangout. "We don’t know where it started yet, but the whole place is burning down," said Toronto police Staff Sgt. Lou Villani. Fire broke out in the downtown restaurant around 11:30 a.m. and grew quickly, sending thick grey smoke billowing up from the trendy neighbourhood. Firefighters could be heard on scanners urging each other to be careful as the roof was ready to collapse. A Toronto Ambulance official said paramedics treated a couple of people for minor injuries but no one has been transported to hospital. The Sassafraz, located at 100 Cumberland St., is one of the places to go stargazing during the Toronto International Film Festival as well as year-round. “It’s not known for the food. It’s known for its scene,†said Toronto Star restaurant critic Amy Pataki. The scene really heats up during the film festival. Industry executives and big-name actors flock to the upscale restaurant with the large wrap-around patio because it’s so close to all the screenings. The fans follow. “Celebrity watchers eat out on the patio, hoping they’ll catch a glimpse of their favourite star,†Pataki said. According to Sassafraz’s website, Mick Jagger, Robert De Niro, Renée Zellweger, U2, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Queen Latifah have all been spotted there.
  10. i think this is good and bad, but i'm a notorious complainer. seems like everything got moved for the sake of the mainstage, which i rarely visit anyways. but it's good for the masses in ways. good - sightlines and crampedness for mainstage alleviated bad - is there any shade at lebreton? intimate stages will have to be redefined. proximity to other things now crappy.
  11. I had to say jamband so it wouldn't get moved to the indie rock forum.

  17. what about those families who can't afford to be clothed or fed buying $800 guitars? just because someone gives you a gift doesn't mean you're tied to it for life either, you can sell it, re-gift it, donate it... plenty of options.

Here's my favourite headline of the day
  19. so then are you balking at the shoes, or at the value of the shoes?
  20. the details about the situation have come solely from you luke, so i'm not sure what more comment can be given... i'd like to know more as well, like if they were actually sick or if they were just blowing off the gigs.
  21. shouldn't this be in the Bass Monster forum? =) i like reading d-rawk and the others battle it out, definitely interesting stuff.
  22. i don't really price out gifts given to me, and kinda think it's uncool to refuse a gift based on its value. the person who gave the gift knows how much it's worth, they're ok with giving it. so the receiver should be ok with receiving it. just my take. everyone is different though.
  23. nope, this is the skank formerly known as smoothedshredder
