  1. I'm so sorry Julia. Another fire survivor gone.
  2. Funny, that's what the people always say when they're convincing me to sign up for their cellphone program, "Well, you can always turn it off." Why would I want to own a product when my greatest pleasure is to turn it off?
  3. Alive or dead? Alive - The John Henry's Dead - Bob Loblaw or The Freeway Band
  4. it's a bad and dangerous habit' date=' for sure, but the benefit of cell phones is very apparent in crashes as well - 911 calls are made immediately. i'd like to think that lives have been saved. i wonder which way the scale tips.[/quote'] My guess is the scale tips waaaayyyyyy to the cell phones cause more death than they save side. Actually, I doubt I could be convinced that cell phones have saved more than the tiniest number of lives worldwide, but obviously, that's just me. Wonder how many have died because there aren't payphones in the middle of nowhere anymore? Of course if it comes out that cell phone waves cause cancer then AD's point becomes positively moot. But then the cell phone companies have proved they don't, right? Enough for me, puts me in a bad mood this early in the day.
  5. However, I am glad that this technology is around, because there have been some great Youtube vids posted from things that you would never have seen any sort of video come out of. Seems like a very trivial benefit for the disaster that is cell phone usage. I just know that I'm going to die in a car accident where the driver is on the phone. I know it. How many times do I have to see someone talking on their cell drive straight through a red light or (even more common) stop dead at a green one? It's like they've legalised drunk driving and all the cops and lawmakers are sitting back letting it happen because Labatt's has good lobbyists. For those that say they are skilled drivers while talking on the phone I would argue that I'm a skilled driver while under the influence of alcohol. Cellphone use disgusts me more than anything else I see in society. Don't get me started on Ipods.
  6. Until the next big thing, I'm finished this project.
  7. I went out to use the pay phone on the corner yesterday and found that it's been removed. Fucking cellphones. rant rant rant
  8. Also at Langerado, I miraculously found my crew upon arrival without a cellphone. It was quite amazing that I found them as quick as I did, and that's one of the things I like about shows. Cell phone help diminish random amazements. Now, end rant.
  9. Care to expand? How so? Is it as in you instantly find who you're looking for. Everything is super-coordinated and you lose the random experiences that come with sumbling around the lot looking for whoever you're looking for? If thats what you mean' date=' I'd agree. [/quote'] Precisely. I noticed at Langerado that most people walking by the campsite were on the phone. It's all about communion with real people, people! (end rant)
  10. I've long maintained that cellphones have ruined the parking lot experience.
  11. The Zappa family working with the Henson crew. Hmmmm.
  12. That's too bad. When I lived in Richmond Hill me and my friends were obsessed with Rush. Someone pointed out the house where John Rutsey lived - we would take a slight detour on our walk home from school hoping to catch a glimpse of him. We never got up the nerve to just knock on the door.
  13. TelAV has an Ottawa outlet. They did the teleprompters for the Levy show last weekend.
  14. Well, yes. Someone tried to take it from the front porch and just left it on the sidewalk in front of the house...I suspect it's 'cuz they realised they wouldn't get through the lock. I'm off to the hardware store now to get something to anchor my lock to the porch. Thanks for the well-wishes everyone. It's not the fanciest bike in the world so normally I wouldn't be tooooo upset but the fact that it's the bike I've taken on all my bike trips...well, I wanna keep it forever.
  15. Phew! On my walk to the bikeshop to see if they had thwe serial number I found it! The bastards tried to cut through my mondo lock and gave up, tossing the bike (manly basket and all) over a fence by the Queensway. With the help of my neighbor I hopped the fence (made me feel fifteen again) and we retrieved it. Seems like there is no damage aside from them trying to get through the lock, but even that doesn't need replacing!!!
  16. It wasn't manly. It was my bike.
  17. From my front porch, downtown Ottawa. It was locked to itself. Mainly orange Bonelli, covered with stickers from Europe and eastern Canada. Basket on the front, with a speedometer/odometer registering almost 5,000kms.
  18. And as for critiquing the lineup, the first Bluesfest lineup was easily critiquable but it grew well.
  19. I agree with AD, such that I wouldn't dream of buying advance tix, but like I say, I hope it goes well. An annual reggae festival that's done right would be a great addition to the Ottawa summer lineup.
  20. He's total pro. It was fun watching him coach the Maestro on comedic timing. He kept saying "Think Jack Benny, let every event happen!" I even made a couple of script suggestions! It was fun, and we talked at the end about SCTV. He said they just got back together for a couple of benefit shows in Toronto, first time they've gotten together in 24 years. I asked him to sign my A Mighty Wind dvd. I told him Mitch was one of my favourite characters of his and he agreed, calling A Mighty Wind "One hell of a piece." The shows are tomorrow afternoon. Now I gotta get to work!
  21. The only surviving Schmenge Brother! He's hosting the NAC show that I work tomorrow. I'm actually a bit nervous because he's obviously used to working with total pro video directors and I'm pretty un-pro. As a video director, that is. Anywho, wish me luck!!!
  22. Congratulations Blane. Good on ya.
