That was a big song for me too. I had the tape, and one time I started counting along. What a revelation when I noticed that the drumroll before the solo was a count of four. I then started to understand the makeup of rhythm. Big deal for me at the time.
My first favourite song initially charted fifty years ago today - Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry. When I was six I sat down and wrote my first ever fan letter. It began, "Dear Mr. B. Goode..." My mom explained to me that there was no such person and thus was my first musical illusion shattered.
Again I'll agree with my girlfreind that there are so many live music highlights in my past that it's impossible to single one out, but for fun I'll list some hugely memorable shows: Bob Wiseman at Zaphod's Bobby McFerrin at Montreal Jazzfest Grateful Dead at Buckeye Neil Young at Massey Hall Tom Waits at Hummingbird Centre The Tragically Hip at Ottawa Congress Centre Hurrah Torpedo and Black Debbath at Oya Festival nero at moe.down ZZTop at Bluesfest Man, them was some fun times.
The Headpins opening for Loverboy. GA show and I was front and centre. I caught a drumstick and Darby Mills' towel. That night changed my life. I walked outta there saying I was going to go to every concert that ever happens, and I've pretty much kept the promise.
They might still have a thing or two up their sleeve. I see there's a few openings in the schedule: Friday night on the Roots stage and Sunday night at the Blacksheep.
