  1. That game on Saturday was truly snooze inducing. Last night's game was better!
  2. Anyone wanna join me for the game this Saturday against the Jets? 2pm start, cheap seats.
  3. Just overheard in the office this morning: "I can hardly wait 'til Ribfest!" The surprising thing was, it wasn't me saying it.
  4. Well the Habs looked pretty smart last night - especially White.
  5. Yep, I had a fun time at the game too. Watching Karlsson steal the puck from Ovechkin a few times was worth the ticket price. Good to sea all 3 Eastern Canadian teams eke out one-goal victories last night!
  6. That Dread Zep show was a ton of fun, wasn't it! People who were in their 20s and 30s in the 1990s are now in their 40s and 50s. Many of these people go to fewer shows now because they have kids, expensive mortgages, and less energy. (these are the excuses I hear when I ask many of my friends to join me to see a live band). A lot of people currently in their 20s and 30s have no interest in seeing a band. They're all about EDM. "Book the right acts and it will sell" - I totally agree with this, but I don't think a promoter who expects a full house for a local Pink Floyd tribute band knows a whole lot about the right acts. All that said, I'd love to see a re-booted Barrymores succeed. That place was awesome in its heyday.
  7. Yes, I greeted that FB posting with a degree of skepticism. Quite frankly I don't think this city has the population nor the demographics required to provide an audience of 400 patrons on a regular basis. Clubs of this size seem to work well in places like Montreal and Toronto, but not so great here. I'm very surprised that they would expect a full house for a Pink Floyd tribute act that has been playing in this city since the late 80s.
  8. Awesome. I had a good chuckle when I saw this! I thought about another annual wind chill rant, but my fingers froze and I was unable to type.
  9. Come on jambanders, these photographs have been "leaked" in advance of just about every tour, and it's always a hoax. That said, I'll be there if there's a show in Toronto.
  10. What was the deal with this guy behind the bench? They showed him on the screen and the crowd thought it was very funny. Uncanny resemblance to the coach. It was good to be back at a pro hockey game last night!
  11. Everyone's going to this show except me. I heard that even Brian Burke and Hazel Mae will be there. Have fun everyone!
  12. Now that the NHL will soon be back in business, I hear a lot of chatter about boycotting. Is anyone here going to boycott? Not me! I took a co-worker to task yesterday. He angrily declared that he was boycotting the NHL. When I asked him if he was going to watch games on TV, he said yes. Then I said “If you’re boycotting, you can’t watch any games on TV, and you can’t even find out what the score was.†Then I noticed a brand new Senators calendar on his cubicle wall and I knew his boycott would be very short.
  13. Yep, a big reading comprehension fail for me too. When I saw the picture I thought to myself "I thought that game was in Minnesota". Have fun at the game Punk and may your Pack atone for last weekend's loss to the Vikings.

  15. Memorial scheduled for Friday January 18th, 8:30 pm at the Rainbow Bistro. It's too bad it won't be at the Dekcuf, but I think there will be a lot of people. They'll need the little bit of extra space that the Rainbow has.
  16. One of my favorite times I had as a musician was on Canada Day in 1999. Back then I played in a band called Camel Toe. Lance got us and a few other bands to play that night. It was a packed house of drunken rain-drenched patriotic revelers, and a hell of a lot of fun. I got to know him a little more in 2002 when he joined a few of us for road trip to a Rush concert in Montreal. Despite the hard living, he was really a gentle soul. RIP Lance!
  17. I'm sure Ottawa jambanders remember Lance Matthews, who used to run the old Whipping Post bar before it became the Dekcuf. Lance had a massive heart attack on the weekend. He isn't expected to survive. That's all the news I have at this point. Lance gave many up and coming bands in this city an opportunity, his contributions to the music scene can't be ignored.
  18. I am very impressed that we waited until mid-December to start up this subject! In previous years, this topic would be posted in September. My tastes may be considered mainstream, but I enjoy seeing your lists and getting turned on to some of the things you're listening to. A few of my faves this year: Rush - Clockwork Angels Neil - Psychedelic Pill Bruce - Wrecking Ball Hip - Now For Plan A Trail of Dead - Lost Songs Black Country Communion - Afterglow MorningStarlett - self titled debut album I may post more later as I think of them.
  19. In 1995 I took a weekend trip to Buffalo for a Bills game. The night before the game, we found out Rheostatics were playing at a nearby bar. When we got there, on the chalkboard out front "Rheostatics" was crossed out and "Triostatics" was written underneath. Apparently Martin had some border crossing difficulties and could not make the show. The opening band that night was The Inbreds. One of my favorite 2-man bands ever. Whatever became of them? Anyway, this cancellation sucks for the fans of this underrated band.
  20. I totally loved the the concert. I thought it was great. If you want a laugh, read the comments following the review on the Ottawa Citizen's web site. The casual Neil fans are pissed! My only regret was leaving my psychedelic pill at home.
  21. extra ticket secured! see you folks there.
